I would say "It would work."

Especially if propaganda was pushed out to enforce the "yeah...go ahead and ride without a helmet, we wont stop you." Followed by some kind of spin in the medical industry as to how motorcyclists provide so much for organ donors, and such. (say for example "we know the typical cyclist usually has no or little gear on, and lets be honest, his body is so torn up, we don't usually try to resuscitate, this way our organ donor facilities are chock full of organ donor organs. so PLEASE stop wearing your helmet!"

(on THAT note, I will say there is some truth to that. When I worked at UTMB doing some computer networking years ago, I ran into Dr. Red Duke. He say my helmet one day, and started chatting it up with me. At one point he said, "The reason why it went from a full helmet law, to a more lax version is because we need more organs. Be safe out there")

Had me go...."uuuuuh what?"...and I commuted a little safer for quite some time..

I own 7 lids (brain buckets) and wear them whenever I want. I do appreciate the fact my freedom and liberties of choice aren't so restricted. Texas rocks!

I would like to offer my condolences to the family so I don't go to for this:

definition of irony

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I love irony.

I'm not in favor of helmets laws. I am in favor of denying medical care to people who go down without a helmet. Best of both worlds. Idiots get to ride without a helmet, and we don't have to pay the medical costs of the ones who don't die. Win win.

I'm all for that. Freedom to choose includes the freedom to live with the outcome of your choices. You should not be able to impose the negative results of your poor personal decision making on the rest of society.

Adults should have the right to choose whether or not to wear a helmet. When an adult elects to ride without one it should be treated as an explicit DNR request on the part of the rider.

Please stop missusing the word irony!

The definition of irony, when speaking of an event such as this is:

"an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been expected. "

As such this is not ironic because we know that a rider is more likely to die in a get off while not wearing a helmet.

The fact that it happened on a ride in support of no helmet laws is purely coincidental.

So RIP, and I need his pancreas.

it is not misused

situational irony. rider went on a ride to protest riders helmet laws, instead he proved the point of how necessary they are from dieing of a head injury.

It's halfway there. If another state enacts a helmet law because of this accident, then it would be ironic.

no. if the state he was riding in enacted the law it would be ironic. then theoretically, he would not died in his wreck because the state would have been forcing him to helmet up.

Nah, it IS pretty ironic.

I dont agree with forcing people to do anything but this was pretty ironic.

Sad that he died. The death of anyone is never good.

State police say evidence at the scene plus information from the attending medical expert indicated Contos would have survived had he been wearing a helmet as required by state law.

It is required in NY.
