Bike choices

Hey everyone, I'm getting another bike after about a two year break from riding. I've been in the military and out of the country so I'll finally be able to pick up another bike in a couple of weeks. My first bike was a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 450. That bike was seriously underpowered, but good to start on I guess. So now I'm looking for something with some more power this time.

My question is if you were in my shoes and coming back to riding after a 2 year break which used bike would you buy in the $2,000 - $5,000 range?

I'm considering the following but I'm open to any suggestions:

ZZR 600
CBR 600 F4i
Katana 600
SV650
ZX6R

Oh yeah, here is my old bike. And my buddy's R6... Yeah, I was jealous, and he had to wait up for me a lot, haha.

F4i's seem super rare... Or at least from what I can see on Craigslist they are. I see GSXR's and CBR RR's all day though. I do have a soft spot for honda, I love my 93 civic hatch.

Your options are boundless, the list you provided are some pretty good bikes. Except for the Kan-A-Tuna, IMO stay away from the Katana. They're heavy and you have to fight them through corners (speaking from experience).

Best of luck to you and welcome back home!

If you like the twin. Go with the SV.
I actually enjoy riding mine more than anything I've owned(save the tard) and it's good for street and track.

ZZR 600 - nothing really special here when compared to other bikes. fewer mods available.

CBR 600 F4i - all around awesome bike you can put to many uses. commute daily, twistys on the weekends, maybe do some trackdays, and if you wreck it, convert it to a stunter. this bike just keeps on giving. lots of stuff has been made for this bike, and a lot is still out there, but since its older, mods will be less common.

Katana 600 - heavy peice of . it only sold for so many years because of the name. AND REALLY NO OTHER REASON. admit it. its only on your list because "katana" sounds cool. it underperforms. ABORT!

SV650 - great bike. while it isnt as sporty as a gsxr, it still peforms very well. lots of aftermarket out there, and does as well as a daily as it does at the track. lots of stuff available. looks good naked. also looks good with clothes on (see sv650s)

ZX6R - another craptastic bike IMO. "ninja" sounds as cool as "katana" and it is also the #1 reason to buy one. well...that and they are usually cheaper than other bikes in its class...but be warned, you get what you pay for.

Looks like the general consensus is the F4i. I'm definitely ok with this, haha. Now I just hope I can find one in my price range with decent mileage. I would probably be willing to spend a little more cash to get what I wanted.

Also what are the main differences between the F4i and the RR? Added HP and suspension? Is the seating a little farther forward on the RR too?

F4i is a sporty street bike.
RR is a race bike with lights & mirrors.

The f4i has a much more comfortable seat and riding position among other things that will make street riding more enjoyable.
