has anybody ever thought of Snowboard pants for rain gear? cause i know they are water proof.

Good rain gear is worth the $$. I was lucky enough to get mine as a gift for Xmas, but I would have gotten it on my own anyway.

It's good to have on long trips, and it helps fight both cold and wet weather. On windy days, adding it as a layer over mesh gear warms you right up.

Make sure that you can easily fit the gear over your riding clothes - my rain pants weren't quite big enough to fit over my bulky overpants so I got one size bigger on bottom than on top. The top should have plenty of length to make sure nothing gets in at the waistline, and the collar should be comfortable even when tightened up to make sure you're not chafing when trying to keep the rain from dripping down your neck.
