I disagree about needing to use the choke to start the bike. I need to use my choke to start my bike when the bike is cold, always, even if it is hot outside. I have to turn the choke off after a very short time, but I still need to use it none the less. Also you may want to try working the choke back and fourth a little just incase something got stuck, if that does not work go see anyone mentioned in this thread.

i Tried taking it to a shop.. They wanna charge 80/hr just to diagnose the issue... I dont have that kind of money...
They did visually inspect the hoses etc and said there was no visual leak...

Also I started sniffing around.. and i noticed that the gas smell was coming from the oil/crankcase i believe. When i open the cap and take a sniff, it smells like gas!

Is this normal??? what could be causing this??

Fuel leaking past the carbs into the crankcase. Change the oil and make sure you close the petcock anytime you park.

you should save yourself some stress & headaches & take your bike to one of the sponsers here on motohouston , like two wheel toys.
I'm sure it is a minor issue , take the time & money & get your bike fixed right.

If you'd like swing by and I'll look at the bike and can tell you what's going on, no charge.
he said "no charge"

He might know just as much as you about motorcycle maintenance....

It happens. I have turned down purchasing a few bikes from people on this forum because the maintenance had not been done, and they had no idea that the bike needed it. Shame on you for not having it properly inspected before purchasing the bike.

May not have anything to do with him. It doesn't take long if you leave the petcock on all the time.

Just take it for a Ride to Motorcycles Unlimited and have it inspect it..
you can't fix anything by just posting. take it to them, see what the bike need and how important the service that it needs to have done.

by the way... you got a used bike! what you spect from it??

reasons like this is why people go and buy new bikes.
but if you have the cash and experience to work on them then we get a nice used bike.

I wouldn't ride it until you change the oil.. if it smells that strongly of fuel you will wipe the bearings.
