How to do a wheelie?

Ive been riding for a year or so. Went from a 600 to 1000 because the 6 was stolen. I have a CBR1000. How do I do a weelie? Should I do it out of 1st gear or 2nd? Is it that simple, you just give it a little extra gas and the front tire comes off the ground?
