Keeping Motorcycle in Storage Unit?

Anyone here have any experience keeping their ride in a storage unit? I assume the climate control one is better especially for Houston weather. I have a V-Star 1300 (pretty big) and the 5 x 5 storage spaces seem to be the cheapest . . . I'm thinking maybe I can fit it diagonally but it seems like it may be a REAL tight fit . . .

Or should I just get theft ins and call it day?

I have space right now in my bro-in-law's garage but might not be able to keep it there too long given some circumstances.

Any thoughts?

5x10 is enough to store the bike, set of tires, gas can and a fan....and then getting it out. That's about it.

5x5 is going to be a squeeze, i would go one step up. Im not sure if they will let you put that in a CC unit.

Yeah, talked to the sales guy about it and he asked, "Your friend got $10k?"

My answer: "Maybe . . ."

Anyone know of cheap storage units in Houston area? (I live in Sugar Land, MO City, Stafford area)

Sorry , just getting back with you.
I pay 99.00 per month , but it is in a very good location .
Manger stays on site & my unit is about three doors dwon from her apt. & office.
As of now , they offer a one dollar for the first month move in.
Quite a few guys keep their bikes there , it has been good , been there 3 years plus.
If you need more info hit me up 713-394-5620 .

I've stored my best friend's bike for almost 2 years now. None of the above has happened. Granted, its a track bike.

and he crashes it plenty on his own

Very good idea.

Just be weary of where your storage is (location)

Some of ours have been broken into on more than one occasion....

If the space is tight you could get something like this

http://www.harborfreight.com/low-pro...lly-95896.html

I purchased one so I could move it out of the way in the garage and it works really well.

As previous posters have said , get full coverage insurance .
I ride my bike three - fours days a week , so no worries about dust , insects etc ....
One thing i do , even when it is stored , is keep the wheel lock on it always.
At work [ downtown garage ] it is parked right next to the guard shack , but even then , the wheel lock is on along with the factory handlebar locking system.
Good luck on finding you a storage space , my mgr. is cool , I have 24 hour access to my bike , but that was prearranged , some lots will not do that.
