I think I found the cure...properly set the cam timing! When I get home tonight and reinstall the gas tank, I am prepared for a 1st kick start. I about kicked my own when I opened it up to find my cam timing was off...close enough to run, but far enough away where it was a PITA to start.

but yes, I can also see a two stroke in my near future.

I'm hoping the little lady will let me ride a bit this weekend.

It's good to find out what was wrong instead of chasing around ghosts in the machine. That makes or a good day.

Yep. I know exactly what I did and why it was 1 tooth off. I set the cam timing without the cam tensioner installed. When I installed it, it tightened the cam chain, and rolled the cams back. I must not have looked at it and buttoned it up. Good going Cliff!

Lesson learned. I won't be doing that again.

Good to hear you got it figured out. Hard-starting is sooooo frustrating and it sets the tone for the ride.

I hate to say that my torture in the woods was self induced. The bike kicks through way easier now and started on the fifth kick. I think my woods weapon is back.

Lee, kicking it is like butter now, remember how it seemed to get sorta hung up? I can probably start it with my hand.

not yet...got 6-8 weeks to allow the fracture to heal before scheduling surgery...looks like it'll be sometime around September.

Sorry to hear that, Danny. It won't be the same without you for a while. Get the doc to prescribe some Asterisk or CTi knee braces and let the insurance pay for them.

It won't be the same not riding...but maybe I'll practice my guitar in the meantime and I'll sing songs around Saturday night campfires for you when I return.

All of the above.

Fractured Tibulla Plateau, minor miniscus damage, and completely torn ACL.

Sorry to hear Danny. That sucks. I had a completely torn ACL back when I was in college. Less than a year later I took a tennis class in college. That running and stopping you do there was a great test for my reconstruction and it proved to be great. 15 years later it's still just as good as new. No issues at all. Rehab is the key.

Thanks man,

What method of surgery did you use? Hamstring Tendon, Patella Tendon, or Cadaver? I would assume the cadaver option wasn't an option 15 yrs ago.

As far as I know Patella tendon. Yep it was WAY back in the mid 90s.

ACL

Went to Baylor Sports med.
Cadaver ACL put in.
Lost 95% strength in my left leg over the period of 2 weeks, post surgery.
3 months HARD rehab (4-5 times per week)
6-8 months personal rehab, gym 3-5 times per week
Got to about 85% of the right leg.
And YES get insurance to buy you an ACL brace, you will use it for at least a year if not forever, I got a custom made one, however stopped using it.

Look around for doctors, see if you can get a reference to someone who has had it done recently, I would NOT recommend Baylor, very expensive.

Good luck dBuck, it will take some time but you will be back on the bike before you know it!

I know we talked about my brother's knee surgery the night before the race. My brother went with the patella graft. I asked him for his reasoning, and he said that it was the doc's suggestion.

That's all I got for you right now. Heal up man. Let me know if you need help with anything as well.
