^^^what he said. It's tougher than it sounds (mechanic's lien) if you do it yourself.

Now on the other hand - I've re' poed a bike for the exact same thing. This customer used a credit card and then decided to do a charge back. I was able to use his friend to setup a operation where we repossessed the bike without much trouble. I then threatened to file a mechanic's lien. I also charge him an extra $500 for repossessing the bike and a $10 daily storage fee for every day the bike was back in my shop. This was about 10 years ago and it was perfectly legal. I don't know if the laws have changed since then.
