Yeah. Got a police report, he admitted fault. He was in a rental car going to the airport. He is from utah, and he got a ticket and has to come back to houston for court and defensive driving.

I just hope insurance covers the bike..

Gear wise, I was wearing my scorpion jacket and joe rocket 3/4 gloves. And some crappy open face giro helmet, cause someone recently stole my helemt. Everything held up excellent. No rips, tears or blemishes. I little scratch on my forearm and leg, but nothing else. Glad I came out alright

He said he didn't. But he is insured with progressive, same as me.

This is my first time dealing with an accident and or insurance claims. Im just trying to get a feel, if they will actually scrape up the $3995 or whatever it is for a new 250, or of the are just gonna cover some of it. It was completely his fault, he even admitted fault, so I assume my bike will be replaced? What are the chances of me being SOL on my bike?

you will have to take it to a dealership to have a damage estimate done to it. from there they will determine if it is worth fixing or just cut you a check for the value of it

To be prepared you should start researching...

trade-in and retail for the make/model/year of your bike &
cost of rental car per day. If I recall, they are reponsible for covering rental
cost up until they make a settlement/repair offer. You might also get your own repair estimate.

In addition, damaged clothing, gear that might need repair/replacing (Ie: solid impact to helmet). You might need to try to prorate this stuff.... ie: normal recommendation is to replace a helmet every 5 years. So say you bought a $500 helmet, had it a year... approx value is $400.

Did you have the bike towed to your place or a shop?

I had it towed to my house because it was down the street. I have a truck though.

And do I set up a thing through my insurance to take it to a dealership, or do I do that on my own?

Personaly, I say call up Motorcycles Unlimited , let them know your a member here (cross your fingers, they might see the post). They'll give you a solid estimate.

Now on the claim proccess... you can file through yours or can deal with his ins co yourself.
Personaly, I came out better dealing with his myself... their initial 'offer' was more than my own ins co was considering for payout on it being totaled. In fact, honestly I found his insurance companies rep more friendly and helpful than my own.
