it just says valid ID, nothing about it being expired. It would be worth a shot...

An expired ID is, by definition, not valid.

An ID is not necessarily a DL. Does your friend has a passport (long shot but possible...)?

You did not mention if the salvage title has been transferred or not yet. My bike is a salvage title and when I got it from the dealer it was still red. When I went through that process (which is fairly simple but very involved) the title was mailed back to me blue. What color is your title? Red or blue? If its red there is a whole element your missing here that will make you go through an entirely different process. You can do this yourself, no need to pay someone to do it.

On another note about expired I.D.'s
When my passport expired I sent it to the gov and they punched a few holes in it and told me to keep it for use as an I.D. (twice now). In that respect I believe my expired passports are still better than any document to use as an I.D. although the only people who understand this are people in the know(dps, dmv, etc). You get alot of for having an expired I.D. from gas clerks, prob even a lady having a bad day at the tax assessor if ur unlucky enough (although they should know better)
