going to ride the dragon, 6/23-6/28

Just thought I would see if anyone here was interested in going.

Plan is to leave Thursday morning (23rd), meet up with some friends in either La or Ms, spend the night, then head to tellico plains KOA campground Friday. Spending sat, Sunday there riding, head back Monday. Expecting to be back in houston tue evening.

Let me know if anyone's interested and I can post up more details.

I wasd there three weeks ago so will warn you that:

!. I-10 freeway construction on the East side of Baton Rouge had us duckwalking the bikes for over and hour.

2. Counted 5 different LEO's on the Dragon proper.

Other than that, have fun and ride the out of it!!!!! Rode the Cherahola Skyway on a Monday morning and only saw 4 or 5 other bikes.

Thanks for the heads-up on the I-10 construction. One of the guys I'm meeting in Baton Rouge still lives in Mobile but is having to travel to LA pretty frequently for work (which is why I'm meeting him there to begin with), so I'm hoping he knows of some decent ways around that.

As for the dragon, I'm going on my Sportster, so I don't plan to be riding it too hard. Between the longer wheel base and extended forks and shocks, I haven't really gotten comfortable with its cornering, so I will be taking it pretty easy. Most of the other guys are also on big cruisers (road kings, goldwings, couple of C50s, etc), so I don't expect them to be getting into it too hard either.

Honestly, my biggest concern is not running out of gas as I've got about a 2.5 gal. usable capacity, and no odometer or fuel light.

Not much gas out there so plan your business. Weekends are packed, worse in the summertime, and there are more cops around.

Bike(s):
- The bike I own
- All the bikes I used to own which I still list so everyone on the forums will know how cool I am

and make sure you bring some ethanol free gas back with you.. Try to hit the dragon between 7-10am before it gets busy.

About the only thing in my favor is that my isn't really suited to long distance riding, so I will likely stop once an hour (when possible, and as often as possible other times).

Hourly stops will also be good for rehydrating in this heat. And don't worry about the Sporty, I was jammin on my "Land Yacht". :
