TWO cops on 59 S bound HOV this morning!

No passing or riding dirty - they were having all vehicles slow/stop so they could check registration and inspection!

Kinda smart, limited ability for violators to 'run'

I think it's b/c it causes a backup on the HOV...which kinda defeats the purpose of taking the HOV

I'm a fan of random inspection/registration check points on HOV's and underpasses. Usually peeps with expired tags aren't up to snuff with insurance (and sometimes routine car maintenance). I prefer them to be off the road. I use to see Metro doing this @ 290/Mangum all the time....it created a very small back up in my experience.

I guess I have to agree with this statement. It would be nice to know for sure that every car on the road has insurance just in case they run you over...

I lifted my visor and smiled at them. The second one smiled back.

It is truly disturbing to see how many people here have no problem with random police stops for random reasons.

it's not random if they are only picking people with expired tags.

Although a good idea in principle, I don't think the police should have the right to infringe on my progress without a reasonable suspecion that I'm violating some law.

a right to infringe on your progress? Driving is a privilege, not a right.

The reasonable suspicion and violation of the law is the tag on your window that is out of date. It's not like they're rifling through your glove box to determine you are breaking the law.

yup, and everytime we agree that a little bit of checking (oh, look his sticker is expired.. pull him over.) Alexander Hamilton has to come in here saying that America is going to because we see it as perfectly acceptable.

Yup, driving is a privilege. Dont like it? take the metro bus.

There are SO many people driving w/o insurance in Harris County, I'm ready for:

-- more of these inspections
-- crushing the cars of people caught driving w/o insurance. Or, heck - giving them away to people at the abuse women's shelter or something.
-- deporting the people driving w/o insurance. What percentage do you think are illegal?

I'm sure Francisca Cortez was totally legit. Too bad the cops didn't pull her over before this:

Court documents allege that after hitting two bikers, the SUV driver got out and attempted to pull the motorcycles from under her vehicle, but got back in the Suburban and has now fled to Mexico
