Let's make kneeguards, leather jacket/pants, gloves and full length boot mandatory too.... might as well make it a requirement for the dealerships to sell them with the bike too. Don't forget the black boxes/data recorders. While we're at it, limit all vehicles to the speed limits, and have the blackbox send a notice when these devices are circumvented and the speed limit is exceeded...or the operator doesn't stop the full three seconds at a stop sign.

Wait....while we're at it, lets make navigation mandatory. When you start the vehicle you HAVE to input your destination...

Irrelevant either way.

MS150 is not the same as a state law. I'm truly sorry you do not have the ability to understand the distinction.

This coming from the person who didn't want to wear one on the seawall so he could "holla at the ladies"....

Perhaps you should explain WHY either of them should be a law.

Just for the record - I always wear a helmet (now anyway, there was a time when I didn't make the same choice) and I haven't driven any distance in a car without a seat belt on, and I decided that long before it was a legal requirement.

In either case, these are my choices - the law has zero bearing on how I would or would not act.

Oh I see, just because seat belts are mandatory... helmets should be too, instead of say, trying to get legislation reversed in the case of seatbelts.

There seems to be some twisted thought process at work with many people whereby they say "Well, since my freedoms have already been taken away with X, then Y should have his freedoms restricted too".

The sad part is, you say that as hyperbole, but we all know its coming...

I propose a new law:

Everyone who supports a mandatory helmet law should be banned from wearing a helmet.

yup, college has done did turned me into sheeple. oh lawd half mercy, think of the children. WELP, it was either college or the military that did that!!! Maybe that is why it was so difficult getting through dive school....oh noes.. spoonfed kids that have no ideas what it is like to work for something....

LOL GTFO with that .

I think that a helmet should be a requirement to operating a motorcycle. Thats it, and yes since I wear one all the time, I could really care less if it was a law since I believe wholeheartedly that it would be largely a benefit to enact a law since a minor collision can permanently harm someone for life.

Many riders that do not gear up usually do it out of ignorance. (Or feel a large need to fit in with the harley crowd.) Making this into a law I would support, it is not the slippery slope that suddenly there will be no more bikes in general. That is bullshit and sounds like the garbage that is constantly being said on fox news. (different topic)

You're arguing that not wearing a helmet does not affect anyone, but it does!

The cost to insure my bike in California (where EVERYTHING is more expensive) was less than half the cost of insurance here.

Also, I'm not a representative of an insurance company, but couldn't not wearing a helmet be looked at as negligence? You're not wearing a helmet, even though you are full aware that it will greatly decrease the chance of personal injury?

I don't think its a desire to protect, so much as a desire to control. It is justified by saying they want to protect you.

Its a pretty common problem amongst people who believed it when their parents said they were special... (or didn't realize that Mom and Dad were really saying "speshul"...)

Yep, I've got a college degree. In Public Administration, which is pretty much Political Science, no less. I am well versed in what the Supreme Court is and what it does. I still have no idea how that answers my question. Sheep? Really? Do you have a degree yourself?

As I stated in the OP, the argument that it increases medical costs is not valid as you are using one restriction upon freedom to justify yet another restriction upon freedom.
As I stated in the derailed thread, the cost to society extends beyond medical care. The emotional cost, as well as financial, to the family left behind must be considered. Perhaps even if not illegal, unless a rider has no family and a death wish, I would say it is extremely selfish to not wear a helmet. I don't need a law to tell me that. But just like those people who are being "harassed" on the HOV lane, people are going to do what they shouldn't. They are gonna let that inspection expire and drive solo on the HOV. The force of law just gives them incentive to do the right thing. Like all the millions that smoke dope or drive drunk, laws don't stop foolish behavior. But they do help.

And just because it's your "right" to not wear a helmet, or not against the law, doesn't mean it's not stupid.

Another question, what benefit comes from not wearing a helmet?
