Need some ride suggestions

My Dad is riding here from AZ in July. This will be our first opportunity to go on a ride together. I was going to plan a ride out towards Fredricksburg / Lukenbach area, however I am limited on time off from work. So I am looking for some suggestions for a nice day ride from Houston. I would prefer a nice relaxed pace, good scenery, no highways. Of course some good food would be a plus. I am open to multiple suggestions, depending on how long he stays we may be able to take two trips. Any suggestions?

3 Sisters is always fun. Also Hwy 39 through Hunt is a very pretty ride. It runs right next to the Guadalupe for a while.

As a DAY trip? That's some pretty long distance work in one day, like 500+ miles round trip (not including the actual ride for fun). I mean 6 or 700 miles is possible but doesn't sound like much fun...

I'm thinking the Natl Forest idea is good or maybe ride to Galveston for lunch. Possibly some roads down around Brazos Bend State Park.

I have not looked at that route yet. Maybe I should clarify, I would like to keep it to a max of say 300 miles round trip.

Since you just want a day smooth relaxing ride, I second this opinion.
