Ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere and ended up being a good thing.

I was on my 3 day long road trip when my reserve light came on and I knew I wasnt gonna make the next town.

I stopped the bike and rode back to a house I had just passed. Parked it by the gate and walked up and this guy that kinda looked like Cooter from the Dukes of Hazard comes out of the garage asking "can I help you?".

I asked if I could buy some gas from him and he goes and checks his gas cans for the mower and they are all empty.

So he kindly gives me a ride to the nearest town to get gas in a can. We talk it up the whole time and it turns out we are both into classic station wagons, he is so much into wagons since he was a kid that he was nicknamed "Station Wagon Bob". I tell him about my 61 and when we get back he shows me an old chevy wagon he is restoring and we go to the back yard and look at his Harley.

Anyway, him and his wife are super nice and invite me to stay over for some BBQ they are about to start on the grill. Pretty cool couple. Said is I ever passed by there to stop by and say hi, they always grill outside and I was always welcome.

I am in Corpus right now but I think I am going to detour their direction, stop and get a 12 pack, and stop by for a few with ol' Station Wagon Bob.

Never a boring trip. Thats the way I like it.

kinda makes you think what you might be missing out on by not talking to your neighbors. I said hi to mine and found out he's restoring an old Fiat and he helps me when I'm being a bonehead with my car. Never know who's next door or down the way

that, I still dont talk to any neighbors.

Like you said, you never know who lives next to you. That cuts both ways, though.
