Long story, short. Poster said he was riding the stripe. HCTRA pulled him over, then called HPD to arrest the poster. HPD was biker friendly and mediated a deal between the HCTRA cop and the rider, that if the rider would post his experience as a warning to others on MH, the rider would only be ticketed and not arrested.

Sounds like HCTRA aren't even LEO's if this is the case. Come to think of it...I've never seen a HCTRA vehicle with red and blues. Anyone who pulls over for someone with security guard lights on their vehicle is an idiot.

Battery probably is wearing out. Go get a replacement at an EZtag store. Mine works in either my leather or mesh jacket.

Do those have batteries in them cause I was fairly certain they worked as passive devices... probably RFID.

So you have a circuit at the booth that emits a wave.. the way provides the energy to energize a passive circuit in your tag which in turn emits a signal with an identification code of some sort. The code is received and processed in a manner that ties that tag to your vehicle.

But what do i know?

P.S. I really don't know how they do that but this method makes alot of sense to me as an Electrical Engineer and is also a common method for using RFIDs in farming applications to gather data while keeping maintenance and material cost down.

HCTRA officers do not have arrest authority.

The contract for who patrols the tollways changes every few years. Currently it is the Constables. About 3-4 years ago it was Harris County sheriff. It also depends on which stretch of the beltway you're at.

From the FAQ I posted it seems like a toll violation is a civil matter much like a red light camera. If anyone has something that says otherwise I would really like to see it.

"Failure to maintain lane" is probably the most likely infraction if you ride the stripes or cross a solid line.

Thank you. From reading it though I still don't see how that equates to hauling you to jail for riding the line. Seems to me like if you have an EZ tag you are not refusing to pay the toll.

Honestly, me-thinks if HCTRA was really serious about it they would implement the technology to make sure it doesn't happen.

I have an EZ Tag but ride the line anyhow.. my defence is there was in the lane I was avoiding...

So sorry the tag wasn't picked up.

May be. Both of mine are like that though, got first 6months ago and second just a month ago. My C14 has a little glovebox on top of the tank, perfect for the EZtag, which works great there.

Just a heads up, any traffic offense that is ticketable can be arrestible, except for open container and speeding. So yes, people have gone to jail for not using a turn signal.

Yeah, I get that. What I'm questioning is the scare tactics being repeated here, like its somehow MORE than just not paying a toll.

test it out (white lining) and see how it works out for you. i would suggest doing it in front of a constable, report back to us

Nah, it's not a heinous crime, but I'm sure if the Pct 5 was having lots of problems with cheapasses running the tolls and they got tired of it, they wouldn't mind arresting and towing a few vehicles just to crack down.
