Cheap Ducati (needs work) - CL ad...not MINE

Ran across this cheap Ducati project.
I (admittedly) don't know about Ducatis...maybe this isn't a good deal...maybe it is. Looks like it's been sitting a while, but for $1500 maybe it's worth it just in parts.

1997 Ducati
$1500

http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/2429522581.html

Also...he says it doesn't have any paperwork, so buy at your own risk.

Name: Chris
Phone: 832-894-7084

AGAIN...this is NOT my ad, NOT my bike, and I have no idea who this guy is. Just passing on what seems like a cheap Duc project.

I texted him. I think this is a 748.

What's wrong with a D&D on that bike? I know its not as high end as Ducatis normally wear but the pipe should work fine... right?

Can you guys give me any tips as how to approach this as a potential buyer? What should I look out for? I am unfamiliar with the Ducati engine. I'm really interested...

Lack of title is okay but I would have to have the VIN run to ensure its not stolen.

I wouldn't imagine that it'd be running. I would definitely check and see if the engine has been seized. If so, would pass on it. I can imagiblne there needing to be quite a bit of work on it. $1500 sounds like a very good start towards a nice trackbike

Mind telling me what he said? I tried texting him but no response thus far. Calling is a real big hassle on my end.

Bring a battery and jumper cables with you if you go check it out and just hook them up to the leads to make sure the motor turns over good...the way the pics look I doubt it would start....needs fuel cleaned out, new plugs, new fuel filter and fresh gas and battery, if its in any kind of good working order it would start up with that

Should be prepared to replace the engine, esp if it has alot of miles, prolly doesent have any maint recoeds either I wouldnt even remotely think U could buy it and just put a couple hundred in it and have a good track bike, as I said before bring your wallet, I promise 1500 is just a start, could very easily quadruple that

I was thinking another $1500. Maybe a little more but certainly not $4500 more.

This is going to sound insensitive, but people lovingly refer to D&D as "deaf and dumb." They're generally stupid-loud.........and that's about it. Little to no engineering for more power, just noisy.
