R.I.P.

I was just listening to the radio and heard a report that a two-up bike hit a wall crossing an overpass. The two went over the wall and fell 70' to their death. They were apparently racing.

OK, they said both were killed on the radio.

Dallas police were investigating a fatal crash that caused traffic headaches around the High Five interchange early Friday.

Police said they were following a motorcycle when it hit a guardrail on the middle tier of massive intersection at North Central Expressway and LBJ Freeway.

The driver of the motorcycle and a passenger were thrown 75 feet to the highway below in the 2:40 a.m. wreck.

One man was killed; another was revived at the scene, but was reported to be in very critical condition.

A spokesperson said officers had been monitoring an apartment complex at Kit Lane and Mahan Road, just north of the High Five, where there had been a recent rash of burglaries. The officers said the two young men fled on their motorcycle when approached by the marked police vehicle.

Police said they were following the motorcycle, but did not characterize it as a "chase."

An assault rifle and a machete were found at the crash scene.

The southbound lanes of Central Expressway were shut down for several hours during the investigation.
