any chemistry majors out there?

I'm a BIO major, and somehow my instructor deemed it necessary to throw a chemistry question into my homework...

When a covalent bond is formed, is energy released or stored?

i can't figure it out but i gotta get this BS done before i go to sleep!

HELP!

Energy is released when isolated atoms form a covalent bond. Energy must be absorbed to break the bond apart.

Bond energy is always a positive value - it takes energy to break a covalent bond (conversely energy is released during bond formation)

The bond energy is the amount of energy necessary to break one mole of covalent bonds into isolated gaseous species, it is sometimes called the bond dissociation energy or bond enthalpy.
