wear your gear

I know you guys have seen this chic and seen her injuries. This is an article that goes more in depth on her story. A few hundred dollars in gear goes a long way in preventing injuries.

It's funny that alot of people see me riding in full leathers everywhere I go and have smart comments aboout it. I've been through all the pain she has been through. Believe me when I say road rash to the bone hurts. It is worth a few hundred dollars and some sweat not to go through that sort of agony.

Is it implied that wind blew her off of the bike? I've dealt with some pretty stron wind, but !

Youch.

I've mentioned that it's been years since I've had a bike. My first real street bike was a CB900 Custom, and along with it, I was given an old helmet missing half the foam. It was far too big, and I had to stuff all my hair plus a couple of socks in it to make it "work"--feel free to laugh at me, btw.
Of course, this is all from a life, time and land far away (ask me sometime how I managed to become a grandma at the tender age of 18).

I lurked on this site for a while before joining and was impressed by how adamantly the majority of you advocate safety. Your positive peer pressure works. You've taken a rank sinner-squid from the streets and transformed her into a MH safety choir girl.

Of course, I'm riding without leathers now because I can't afford them. . .but the minute I get that next paycheck, I shall get myself hence and purchase, at least, a jacket.

I imagine that being a passenger at high speed would be hard to hold on. Being a pilot, we have handle bars to grip on with. I think the moral here is to wear gear. You would think that after all she went through that she would invest in leather. If she were to damage the skin grafts again, it would take a long time to heal up. Every time I scratch my skin graft it takes forever to heal.

I dont allow passengers on my bike, and the few times I was either REALLY asked, or for one reason or another had to.
I forced them to wrap arms around my waist, even if it was a guy. I told them Im not going to be responsible for them falling off, and if they fail to listen to my requirements and do fall off, I wont go back for them.

Needless to say, ive yet to have anyone try to be a hardass and not hold on, even the macho men

Ive ended up transporting some people before and have no choice. I rather give them money for a bus.

Of course, alot of my transporting days were on the 250. Now that I have the 51 with its nice solo seat, I can tell everyone "**** off!" and be the first one to burn off.

yeah I've done 2 guy stunting on a quad before with my friend and when someone is haulin its real hard to hang on...
but I wish I had a cliffs notes of that article on a business card or something, every light I pull up to when I have my gear on and its 90 degrees out and someone says " man aren't you hot? why do you wear all that gear?"

as it is I just laugh and say "I'd rather sweat than get skin grafts."

"that chic"

that girl, brittany, had her get off at over a 100 mph on hwy 550 in nevada or arizona. i had a short correspondence with her earlier this year when my wife went down. her visor came open pulled her back and the wind caught her and pusher her off the back. she slid for 552 feet, approx 1 1/2 football fields. shes a nice girl, very straight forward and strong, like a lot of the women on this board........................wayne
