Dirt helmet advice needed

What are some decent helmets for 200 to 250. Not real familiar with them and dont want to buy something like icon which is overpriced junk.

I have a Fox V1 that has been very good to me. For that kind of money you might be able to get a Fox V3 which is lighter.

I buy a new helmet every 6 months or so b/c I sweat like crazy in them and I'm sure to put a few dings in them pretty often. I just buy the Cycle Gear special (usually 60-100 bucks) for a "decent" helmet...Unfortunately I can't afford a $250 helmet every 6 months....and after 15 or so washes the pads break down anyhow.

This is going to be for motard rides so it is about 50/50 street and dirt. Jumps onto concrete and what not so I wanted something that could take a hit on the hard stuff. It's just so hot with a street helmet on especially when you're sitting there waiting for your turn to hit something up.

i'm not so sure a $70 DOT helmet can take a hit better than a $250 DOT helmet. I think a lot of that money goes into the R&D to make helmets more comfortable, lightweight, and ventilated. With that said, I generally pick up a helmet once a year for dirt, and they are generally last year's models and discontinued graphics. I like dbuck won't dump a lot of money into an item I know will have a decent potential for seeing its service life early on.

Hey you want to go and try some one. Oh wait.... I have it narrowed down to a Fox V2 if I can find one without goofy graphics, the O'Neal 8 Series, and a Thor something or other. Haven't been able to find an O'Neal 8 Series in a store to try on first. Anyone know where they have a lot of dirt helmets other than Cycle Gear?

lmao. dude heal up!

i really like the fox helmets. I think they are nice and super comfortable. I really had a thing for the fox v3 helmets in the past, but never got one due to their price. instead i have used a couple mid level oneals and then this thor that I recently cracked the chin bar and visor on. all have been great for my melon and my wallet.

good luck.

EDIT: dayum, this thread reminds me...now I too am in the market for a new helmet. I've been dumping money into repairing the bike and totally forgot to replace my gear.

i used the HJC and TLD line. Found that they can definately take a bang and hold up.

I ended up receiving the HJC SPX a few minutes ago. I have to say it fits very nicely. I must comment that it feels super heavy compared to my previously worn Thor SXT. So much that the weight difference is night and day. I don't know how this helmet made it into the "lightweight helmet" category. If this thing is really 3 lbs. 4 oz. for a medium, I would love to know the weight of a medium Thor SXT.

Nice. I went with a Fox Racing V2. Seems really light and the vents work well. I can actually feel the air moving on the back of my head which is nice.
