Women Shouldn't Ride Bikes

One of my classes is working with the whole thesis statement/supporting details concept, and in a blatant attempt to draw me off topic the students brought up my new bike. I told them to come up with a thesis statement dealing with motorcycles, and a fair number decided to write an argument supporting the following: Women shouldn't ride motorcycles. No big deal; we're all entitled to our opinion, right? Anyway, I thought some of you would get a kick out of the arguments they presented. And believed. Wholeheartedly.

1. Women can't physically handle bikes because they're made for men.
2. Women are naturally afraid of motorcycles and this will lead to more accidents.
3. It isn't lady-like/feminine.

Keeping a straight face was pretty hard, but we had a delightful discussion about logical fallacy, gender roles, etc.

kids are ****ing stupid. I deal with the same type of ignorent idioticy in my classes.

I will admit, I know a few women who ride cycles just to be an attention and to say "haaay, look at me, you know you want this, but you cant have it!"

but on the othe hand, theres like a ratio of 100:1 of guys who are the same way, only they say "haaay look at me, im a badass why dont you sleep with me" but it doesnt work

BTW: be prepared to tear open your own , cyrstal, because the thread starter is female!!!!!!

Brena--most excellent! I think it'd be great if all the MH ladies could come out and give a wee demonstration. I think a majority of the class "got it" by the time we finished, but a few surly ones held out. Sigh.

1. Women can't physically handle bikes because they're made for men.
i figure some bikes are more difficult to handle for women because of their size, but there are some small guys on big bikes.

2. Women are naturally afraid of motorcycles and this will lead to more
accidents.
yes most women are afraid of bikes...they are condition from a young age to follow a certain path...but even men are afraid of bikes too,

3. It isn't lady-like/feminine.
but pending that the girl is attractive to begin with, i find girls on bikes are even more attractive
not that i'm hot stuff or anything........but if the chick is ugly...even if she has a bike too bad for them.

Yeah...sigh...yeah--Galveston College. Although today was rough. I'm not sure teaching is the word I'd use to describe my job right now.

Better than Ezra. . .Ezra Pound? I'm one of those literary geeks, so I have to ask. lol

Haha, that's awesome. I just graduated from UofH and I'm going to SFA up here in Nacogdoches to get my teaching certificate.
I want to teach highschool for a while then move up to college.

Composite social studies is what my certificate will be in.
Dream is to teach public policy, or political thought/theory, something along those lines--Bachelor's is in Political Science.

Oh, and Better than Ezra--it's a band! :-)

Actually she realized that she mis-read but she couldn't correct because her laptop is acting up...

Congrats on the recent graduation! I started out at the Uni. of AZ in sociology...I thought I'd shake things up, reform America, change the world, blah blah blah. lol Then I came back to TX and spent a summer working at a shelter for women. I ran like and got an M.A. in literature.

Ahh, a band. Figures. My dad is (was--retired now) a hard-core Southern Baptist preacher, so I grew up with minimal radio and television. It took me a while to stop thinking of Jethro Tull the inventor whenever the band was mentioned...now I'll add this Better than Ezra info to my growing pop culture folder. You'd think I'm 90 instead of 31. They love me, but none of my friends pick me for any of the Trivial Pursuit games that deal with music, movies, etc.

Haha...that's awesome. Maybe you just need an awesome person like me to school you in Pop Culture--something I'm pretty good at.
