Unless you're dying on the front page at 25 instead of living another 50-60 kick years of life, love and family before you're yourself in that nursing home. I want to grow old and see my grandkids. I want to see a lot more sunrises and sunsets in a lot more exotic locations.

I've done a lot of things that look crazy to most people. I've done 28,000 foot HALOs, night jumps, been around a few road courses at 150+ on 4 wheels with the Skip Barber guys and several on 2 wheels as well. I've laid in a ditch trying to breathe after wadding up my R6 and thinking that I might be paralyzed when I broke my back in '99. At none of these points would I have rather died than lived to be old and myself. It's the in-between that counts, and I want a LOT of in-between.

Not picking on you, and I hear what you're saying. My beliefs are actually pretty close to yours. I personally think that a life full of calculated risks and true living is far better than a boring life lived in fear - I just want more of the LIFE part.

I want to die in my sleep just like my Grandpa did - not screaming in terror like his 34 passengers...

In your best Scottish accent say "Every man dies, not every man truly lives"

Alas, my Scottish accent stinks or I'd be going around doing Fat quotes and acting out Saturday Night Live Sean Connery on Jeopardy sketches - I'll take "The mightier than the sword for 500, Trebek!"

Dress for the crash, not the weather. Sure its hot outside, you could probably fry bacon on the hood of my car.

Example - Its an average of 98 degrees out, and you just crashed and fell off your bike (this could be your fault, or even the other person may be to blame.)
Would you rather be cut up, bleeding, and laying on the road with just a t-shirt on, or do you think it would be a little more comfortable with a jacket on? You wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

Everyone talks that, If you act stupied on your bike, then you are looking to get heard. If you ride right and watch out for the other guy, you will be ok . Just wear your gear and keep safe out there. Alot of accident are caused by acting stupied

Im just saying if it happens it happens. Do all you can to prevent it but if you love to ride your not going to worry about crashing or what might happen. 160 through traffic, well your just asking for it but a country road on a quiet morning, let it rip. There is always a fine line between fun and stupid the person determines that line for themselves.

I've never had people tell me that I'm riding a coffin, I would just scoff at them.
I do have people telling me all the time be careful with concern, which on the other hand is nice.

He asked,"Well, do you smoke tobacco or drink beer?"

"Oh no," I replied. "I've never done either."

Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbequed ribs?"

I said "No, I've heard that all red meat is very unhealthy!"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf?"
he said.

"No, I don't," I said.

He said, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or

"No," I said. "I've never done any of those things."

Arkem,

Combine skills, practice, judgement and good equipment and you will be ok. Fear is the enemy when it takes over....many people live a life of hiding from one boogeyman or another--I get the same stuff at work once in a while...

non riders advising riders that they are on a deathtrap

I think we have all gotten advice like you and everyone here has described, Best thing I can recommend is "DONT TAKE IT WITH YOU ON A RIDE" you need to be thinking about task at hand, Be careful out there.

Three Points:

1. Wear your gear. It won't stop you from crashing, but it will ease your pain.

2. When people poo-poo your riding, they're either concerned for your health, jealous as or ignorant fools........you'll have to figure out which!

3. Everybody dies..sometimes we get to choose how, sometimes we don't.

Elvis dies taking a ! I'm sure he'd of much rather went out riding a motorcycle.
