And yes the biggest problem with the ZX10r is massive restrictions on US (and even EUR) models that severely limit their power. Also roll-ons favor BMW stock gearing with the tranny ratios, the ZX10r launches better but would need to be geared differently for roll-ons.

Looks like BMW may not get that reliable star.

yeah man, i usually just leave it on sport mode even for sunday rides.....

Last night i didnt know Carlos wanted to do the roll on with me so i didnt bother to switch modes, once the traffic cleared after going over the bridge by the ship channel he asked me to pull right next to him and put the bike in second gear for the roll on.....

The sucky part with the beemer is that it doesnt let you switch modes on the fly, but since it was Carlos i just went ahead and did it anyways thinking the ZX10 would pull ahead of me and specially with Carlos on board

wow hope the bmw warranty covers this major malfunction!

was it your own bike or someone else's bike at the track?

if it was your bike, did you feel anything abnormal with the motor before this happened?

No, another racer's bike. It is still under warranty. He said it just went without much of a warning - bang! No rattle, knock or vibration. Pulled the clutch in and nothing happened so he thought it was the chain at first. A glance down showed there was a chain, so it was obviously something else. It dropped a line of oil on the track, but not as much as it could have. We looked for parts but couldn't find them. He confirmed yesterday what we knew at the track - reciprocating parts wanted out. The guy that owns it is one of the faster guys in the club, so he's hard on motors, but then again, all race bikes lead a hard life.
