Guns and Bikes

I have been looking at the laws here in tx about having a gun in your car. (Without a licence)
It seems to be legal if the gun is out of sight. That is okay in a car because it means you can shove it down in between the seats. Easily withing reach and still leagal. On a bike however the trunk is not where you need it, and you can't have it on you person without the CHL. I wonder if putting it in a tank bag that locks would be legal? Thoughts?

It was just on my mind. I was in the not so friendly part of town the other night at a stop light and a guy asking for money was able to walk up behind me and tap me on the shoulder. I almost dropped my ride lol. On the ride back I thought how easy it would have been for this guy to clock me in the back of the neck and ride off on my baby, and do what ever it is they do to turn my shiney white bike into a shiney white crack rock.

having a chl won't help with situations like that. being aware of your surroundings will cover you there.

I'm not the guy who likes to put a little red dot next to my name on government lists. Paranoia is a side effect of injustice.

I'd be more worried about not having mirrors and being run over from behind by a car. and yes.... I speak from experience.

ah, you referred to yourself as young and not qualifying which i why i assumed.
You dont want to put your name on a list okay, but you cant carry an accessible handgun while riding without a CHL. A taser would circumvent that if you need to carry something. but situational awareness like witchdoc was mentioning is what you need the most. have a gun, or a taser or a rpg and let someone sneak up on your and its all for not. know what i mean?

I completely understand, I felt like such a noob sitting there like a dear in headlights. Scary moment, I'm sure the guy ment me no harm and probably didn't even know where the clutch was but it rattled me none the less. The last couple of days my head has been on a swivle.

It would freak me out, too.
Keep your head on a swivel for sure, which is a good idea in regards to traffic, too, not just bums.

Assume every car and every person you see is going to murder you. every one. keep alert, keep aware, keep alive.
goes for cars and jackasses.

and yeah, maybe throw one mirror on your bike.
