**** me and tickets. the first serious one Ive ever gotten

So im going home (on the bike) and im on memorial, just passing gessner, if yall know that area, the road curves around, and I was in the right hand lane, doing the speed limit.
Just as I come around the curve, this cop has someone half pulled over to my right. I slow down to about 20, and move to the next lane.
about 30 second later he comes hauling on me, and gives me a ticket for "obstructed license plate, with no license plate light" and failure to slow down for emergancy vehicle.
luckly I got no charges for it not being in my name, and not having insurance. I had my insurance card for the last bike, and just told him I just picked it up tonight and was bringing it home. still didint work too well.

This is for bunker hill court. They dont sound too friendly. ****ing christ! i always get tickets for the stupidest . I knew I would have been safer taking westhimer home. ****. im so used to getting BS no front plate tickets (thats actually all ive ever gotten) and now I gotta deal with a real ticket that could affect my record.
Not to mention the court date is oct23 at 6PM, wtf!

You should be able to beat that moving violation in court if what you say is true. Copied from the dps website.

"The law states a driver must either vacate the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle if the road has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction OR slow down 20 miles per hour below the speed limit. (If the speed limit is below 25 mph the driver must slow down to 5 mph.)"

Sounds like you met one of those requirements. The license plate ticket is not a moving violation and will not affect your insurance rates most likely. You were lucky because the insurance ticket is a simple case, either you have it or you dont. Insurance tickets will always affect your rates especially on a bike. I would ask for trail by jury and choose to represent yourself.

Be sure to ask the officer upon cross examination a few key questions.

Where was the officer positioned prior to stopping you on traffic?
What lane did the officer initially see you travelling in?
What lane were you in when the officer initiated the traffic stop?
Did the officer see you change lanes at any point prior to him initialting the stop?

Negative on that alrova.
I'm an officer with the Houston Police Dept, and one of the top ticket writers at my station. Certified in both mov/sta radar and LIDAR, and have testified in waaay too many traffic ticket cases. In my opinion a lawyer is really needed in about 5% of the cases I testify in. Everything a lawyer can do, you can do on your own. I won most of my cases but have been beat on a few, and they were all cases in which the violator represented themselves.
I see many names metioned here in terms of atty's. Monks, Sprecher, Kubosh etc, and know them all personally and have went to trial on most of them. It's not like they sprinkle magical dust on the ticket and make it go away.

I have a rc and have had no problems. Fix your plate like it should and eliminate the excuse to pull you over. don't blame the bike, it is a hole riders that make the honest ones look bad.
