Glad you made out o.k.

I've carried regularly pretty much for the last 26 years.
One thing to keep in mind, IF you do carry, BE DAMNED SURE that if you pull your weapon, you are willing and able to use it.

It's easy to say that you're hard and all that and that you'll shoot someone, but if you hesitate you may be the one who gets shot.
Shooting / killing another human being is no small thing. Are you prepared to deal with the mental and civil liabilities that you will incur?

IMO, unless you're truly prepared to deal with the fallout, not putting yourself in a bad situation, or getting out of a bad area with minimum exposure, is the better tactic in the end.
As always my 2 cents YMMV.

I dont have a carry permit I keep mine loaded by the headboard though I'm not really worried when Im out on the bike I feel confident that its quick enough to get me out of any trouble...
I think carrying would just get you in more trouble.

Back to what Patrick said, can you deal with the fallout? Were you in fear for your life or another's, did they brandish a deadly weapon and approach you in a aggressive manner and you HAD NO DOUBT that they had EVERY intention on using it on your skull? If you kill the charges are either dismissed or it's manslaughter, if you wound and he had "friends" around and you don't they are called witnesses. Avoid any and all dangerous areas possible to prevent a situation, at all costs even if it might be an inconvenience. Criminals don't have anything to lose, you do so take appropriate steps as necessary.

Also, If you had a CCW in a Small of Back holster and go down in an accident you would be paralyzed. Carry in a inconspicuos way and always think of the possibility of what will happen if you eat it. I NEVER carry SOB, something as small as a slip when walking can ruin some . If your on a Bike you can either brake if moving or twist the throttle, I would choose throttle over the few seconds it takes to draw. (Gloves, zippers, balancing, kickstand, not to mention VERY little cover unless you hide behind the bike.) The throttle is a GOOD thing at times... I have had someone that looked like he pulled a pistol on me on I-59 a few years back, I couldn't really tell what it might have been but some "evasive" manuevers and I bailed... Try to solve the problems at the lowest level or try to downgrade them instead of escalating it.

Also if you do carry, select your rigs CAREFULLY.... Losing a pistol sucks, losing a pistol and not knowing where it's at sucks even more.
