All of them which leave the factory with a pillion seat.

In fact, EVERY bike that is sold in the United States with a pillion (rear) seat has some form of passenger grab handle - be it a rigid portion attached to the frame, or a strap which goes over the leading edge of the passenger seat - that's the point of that strap - its not a styling accessory.

The AMA has put up notice...

Quote:
Action Alert

Texas House of Representatives Passes “Sport Bike” Law
Could establish dangerous precedent for Texas motorcyclists

On May 4th the House passed House bill 2470, which defines “sport bikes” as a separate class of motorcycles and places special restrictions on the operators of “sport bikes”. The bill would also require motorcycles designed to carry more than one person to be equipped with passenger foot pegs and handholds for use by the passenger.

While the requirement for passenger accommodations is redundant (these requirements are addressed in federal regulation) the AMA is most concerned by the state’s arbitrary definition of “sport bike” and the potential of establishing a dangerous precedent of regulating motorcycles and motorcyclists differently based on this definition.

The bill’s definition of “sport bike” is so broad that it may even be counterproductive to motorcycle safety. In a position statement, the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) observed that,

There are small displacement (250 cc) motorcycles that, because of the vague and subjective criteria proposed, would be included in the definition of “sport bike” that are as appropriate, or more so, for novice riders than certain other larger displacement motorcycles that create much more horsepower yet would not fall under the “sport bike” definition and therefore not have restrictions placed on them.

HB 2470 is currently in the state Senate.

The AMA encourages all Texas motorcyclists to review the legislation which is posted on the StateWatch section of AmericianMotorcyclist.com and contact their state senator with their concerns.

This reaction is funny...

On a forum where a vast number of people:

A. Would LOOOVE to see laws regarding "mandatory" gear
B. Often seem to enjoy and mock RIP threads where the rider was not wearin gear
C. Insult and label as "stupid" anyone not wearing a lid
D. Pretty much consider all HD riders idiots

everybody is now complaining about a law targeting sportbikes, i thought you liked laws? dont you guys usually feel like the govt needs to tell riders to wear a lid?

funny how depending on who the law is going to affect opinions change dont they?

End rant.

Keep up the good fight bear! im with you and thank you for you efforts, we need more people doing this. more laws is not what we need.

Since the government has fixed the economy, defeated terrorism and ended crime in the streets it's only logical that they would start addressing the really important issues we face.

point blank we have the constitutional right to make stupid decisions and no one is allowed to force us to do anything against our will that would limit that

i dont see how this relates to the bill as i dont see any mention of safety gear must be worn or anything about half naked chicks

either im tired from all this psychology studying or its not in there

thanks for clarifying that, because i have seem people post about how "riced" out it became when that accessory was added on

I agree with the OP. He is informing the community on laws and regulations that are being imposed on the motorcycle world.

all he is doing is trying to inform and gather support for their belief. If you do not agree, dont do anything because the law is already in affect.

if you do care, write to your congressman or senator. Looks like the first post was a letter already drafted for you to copy and insert your name. Just sign and send the letter.

dont know what else to say but happy and safe riding out there guys

I love how it will actually be put into law how inferior Harley Davidson's are when it comes to speed, acceleration, braking and maneuverability. If I was HD I'd be jumping up and down.

" (18-a) "Sport bike" means a motorcycle:
(A) that is optimized for speed, acceleration,
braking, and maneuverability on paved roads;
(B) that has a lightweight frame;
(C) on which the operator leans forward over the
gas tank during operation; and
(D) that is not a touring, cruising, standard, or
dual-sport motorcycle.
(1) does this mean that definitions already exist for "touring, cruising, standard or dual-sport" motorcycles?

(2) who's to say that HD's aren't designed to be optimized for speed, acceleration, braking and maneuverability? Or that they don't have lightweight frames and require you to lean over the gas tank? All in the eye of the badgeholder.

* * *

I think one's an idiot for riding squid, but I'm glad to see the helmet laws repealed. It's essentially a victimless crime. I think the argument was that not wearing a helmet sent more people to hospitals, many of whom couldn't pay their bills - yielding a domino effect of no helmets = higher taxes.

This law is not at face value!!! It leads to something down the road. WHY do lawmakers need to get academic and dissect motorcycles into various classes? And what's this deal about 18+ age restrictions, or needing to have had your license for at least 2 yrs? You can't observe someone committing this "crime" - you'd have to pull them over to check. Basically it amounts to: if you have a passenger, cops are obligated to stop you to check everyone's i.d. and run a background check to see when your license was instituted. What next?!

This law doesn't affect all sport bike riders; only those who carry passengers...

Did you notice/read what I quoted? It was in regards to the completely offkey rant...

...as for HB2470 and fighting/support. The crowd here has been relatively apathetic about it.

I'll make a deal with you. You pressure the Texas legislature to provide more funding for The University of Texas at Austin, and I'll do my part to try to have motorcycling unregulated
