Loooong post! nooby on the east side.

Hey all! My name is Reese. Well Iím a nooby to MH anyway. Iíve been lurking around in the shadows for a few months since I purchased my last bike. Now I decided to introduce myself. I came from a motorcycle family and part of my childhood was spent on the back of my dads 1975 Goldwing. He now owns a 97 dynaglide lowrider and a 2003 Sportster. Iíve been riding myself ever since I got a 3hp mini bike at the age of 7. Now I am in my 40ís, and currently own a 2003 Honda Magna VF750C. Which I purchased new and more recently I purchased a 2008 Honda CBR1000RR. Iíve wanted a sportbike ever since I first saw a sportbike on Bob Lunsfords showroom floor in 1985. Along the way Iíve also owned a 70ís Suzuki RM60, 1985 Honda CR125, 1987 Honda TRX250R(racing 4wheeler), and a 1997 Honda Magna VF750C. Iíve always been an avid bicycle rider, and currently ride a Specialized Enduro Comp mountainbike.

Although I am definitely planning to join some of the weekend sportbike rides. I am typically not a weekend or group rider. I mostly ride to get from point A to point B. 40mpg versus 13mpg, you do the math. Weather permitting I commute 59 miles 5 days a week(50 on the freeway). I like being able to see the road under my feet, feel the wind in my hair and on my skin. Iíve logged over 70,000 miles on the Magnaís. Including 3 trips of over 1300 miles. Each trip I just missed doing 1000 miles within 24 hours due to - weather (990miles), running out of fuel(920), and hitting and killing a 9point muledeer(995). Although after making a police report for insurance purposes and in an attempt to legally aquire my first ever deer kill. I logged 150miles more that night. I even came real close to hitting 2 more mule deer. Iíve put over 8000 miles on the CBR since buying it in Sept. of 2010, when it became my favorite transport.

Although I do plan to get all the necessary gear to do some track days. I enjoy living on the edge, and I have trained very hard all my life learning how to hit the ground and bounce back up with only minor scrapes and bruises. I can remember crashing a tenspeed as a teenager while doing over 30mph. My first experience with road rash. And the 4 wheeler tried to kill me on atleast 3 occasions. Twice by high siding at over 45, before I learned to stay on the gas after getting the end too far sideways in the turn. Extreme activities give me that warm and fuzzy feeling on the inside. The goose bumps feel pretty good too. I am a native Harris County resident so I am perfectly comfortable buzzing thru rush hour traffic. If I feel the need to surround myself with armor, my 4wheel drive SUV with oversize tires and a steel bumper makes me feel perfectly safe. I mostly only wear a helmet during inclement weather, on long trips(for wind/sun protection) and on the sportbike because the windscreen isnít tall enough to stop the bugs or the rocks from whacking me in the face. Bumblebees hurt like , and can leave a bruise at 70mph. Rocks donít feel to good either.

For the most part I ride responsibly, but I sometimes still have poor impulse control which can make me act like a squid. My first memories of crashing came shortly after getting my minibike. We should have tore that raggedy barbed wire fence down sooner. My last memory of crashing(and only memory of ever laying down a street bike) was the day after hitting the deer. I was going up the eastern side of Independence Pass, CO. I ran up on a hair pen turn covered with sand. I saw the sand and felt their was no way in of making it around the corner, so I slowed as much as possible(<20) then as soon as I hit the loose stuff I intentionally locked up the rear and laid it down on the kickstand and highway peg. It was much easier landing on the bike and I.

Anyway, that about does it for now. Hope this post isnít to long. As soon as I remember how to reduce the size of my photo's I'll throw a couple up.

a pic or 2

ok that didn't take to long. One is of me just before launching my kayak on Boliver Peninsula. When going down the rd. It is all folded inside the trailer wheels. The second one is of me on my second long trip. Taking the scenic route 35 miles of mountain pass dirt road. Heading from Glenwood Spring, CO. to Gunnison, CO. I'll have to post apic of the CBR later.

I enjoyed reading your post. You're right, the windscreen in a sportsbike is so short! I hAd to slouch down on my 2nd time on the highway last night to cover myself. Welcome to Mh

Hey - southeast side here.
My 2nd bike was a 1984 VF1100C Magna - fastest thing around till the VMax showed up. Loved that thing. Bad stator ended that relationship but I've always thought of getting another.

Ah, I work a LOT on weekends, so I usually ride either Sunday afternoon if I feel up to it, or anytime during the week.
