09 Aprilia SXV 5.5 Thoughts?

Thinking about getting an Aprilia SXV 5.5. Houston Superbikes has an 09' with a huge rebate. Has anyone been on one?

Awesome ride. The twin kicks and makes the thing a wheelie monster.

It's very Italian though. Exhaust burns off rear blinkers. Doesn't start in the cold. The valve job is labor intensive.

bad bike, but not good for the street. Very uncomfortable for riding on non-twisty roads.

Definitely one of the best track weapons out there, period. I had one, but just couldn't ride it for longer than 30 minutes at a time other than at the track.

I was kinda thinking about picking it up to commute on just because its looks cool as where the exhaust comes out and I could only imagine it's extremely fun to ride....I only have a 25 min commute you think it's too uncomfortable even for that?

that statement holds true with all motards. They're not built for comfort. I commuted on my motard for a while, it was fine, just takes some getting used to... The sxv however is most certainly not a commuter.

I spoke to someone who just picked one up and had HSBKs upgrade to the "Austin Racing" Exhaust......SOUNDED AWESOME!

I own one. It literally puts my to sleep in about 25 minutes. Also, the book calls for 5000 mile rebuild intervals, and unlike a single.....its not something you can do you in your garage on a saturday. NOT a commuter bike.

The Ape is the baddest motard money can buy but it comes at the cost of maintenance. They are a twin so valve jobs and what not are more difficult and time consuming. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty then do it. The singles like the Husky and the KTM are still great race bikes but being a single they are easier to maintain. Valve checks and adjustments on my Husky literally take 30 minutes to do.

I've built plenty of domestics v8 car motors before, and I wouldn't touch the SXV motor. Trust me, read around the SXV section on apriliaforum.com: if you don't know what you're doing here you'll screw something up.

The power delivery is fairly jerky. The bike has asynchronous throttle bodies and a really quick turn throttle.

I want one badly. Thought about converting it to a road racer like the 450 singles they ran in USGPRU last year.

Woe there Tex! You might want to leave the wrenching on that thing to the mechanics at Houston Superbikes.

I MIGHT let those guys touch my RSV. There's no way in I'd let them at my SXV. My SXV needs work............its going to AF1.

Yeah, its not quite something that you can walk into a dealership and touch.

If memory serves, ATK makes a larger displacement one as well.

I remember reading somewhere that they make about 85 hp stock. That is retarded but in a good way.

When I asked on another forum about the sxv I got 2 replies.

One was "I want one as a SECOND bike."
