Last summer.

So I had already been thinking about selling the bike, getting out of riding.
Looking to get a house, not enough time to ride, busy with work and my kid, too many RIP threads, other personal stuff, etc.

I've been going around and around in my head. I'm pretty much 50/50 on it.
The 50% that wants to sell it, really wants to sell it.
The 50% that wants to keep it, really wants to keep it.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be my last summer riding it then just hang it up for good during the winter. Sell it off to someone else that wants to really douche it up on a "Gixxer" lol...

Anyone else out there been through this?

I haven't been riding much anymore. Just alot of big changes in my life right now mainly my daughter just getting into highschool and in every sport that ha really limited my time. I don't think I could bare to sell it.....I like knowing its sitting in my garage if I want it. I would regret selling. So im goin to keep it, I just find im not as obsessive about riding as I have been in the past....and actually it has been a good thing.

Why not just keep it and only ride track? All the bad news lately has really made me think twice about riding, if anything, I just ride a bit more cautiously than before.

Nice and easy....enjoy the ride.

Rolan, really sad to hear that you're considering giving up riding. Sadly, I have not gotten to ride with you yet but I know you're a responsible rider. I actually think you're making this decision because you haven't gone to track yet. Once you have, it's a completely different situation. Your bike is in pretty good condition so you can probably sell it at a decent price. With that money, take care of what you need and then in the future, hope you can pick up a straight track bike. Track is an extreme blast and it's a lot safer than the streets. Let me know if you have anymore questions man and we'll for SURE get together in the summer to ride.

I remember you and I chatting about this Roland. I understand what you mean, but also know how much you love the sport. Perhaps find a balance. Maybe you could sell the SS and get another boulevard to enjoy liesurly riding on.

Nail on the head. Exact same thing here. (Well, except my kid will just now be starting kindergarden.) Man, I love knowing that it's in my garage and I love having a free day to just get on and ride. And when I do ride, there's no where else I'd rather be. , lately that's just once every 2 weeks now.

I'm probably the most cautious rider I know. I've definitely let my skill level set my speed and not vice versa. I don't know, I've also considered track but honestly, I only have 2 saturdays free per month and use it to relax, spend time with friends and family.

This is a really good idea. I've only been to one parade lap and it was fun. But honestly, I just really enjoy the point A to point B type of longer rides. Pulling over and getting lunch, getting gas and a soda, taking a break and chatting with the other riders. Maybe sell it now, take some time off, get a track bike and go from there. Thanks Sherman.

Yeah, man that was a good talk, thanks for the call.
Hey BTW, do you guys go to that Cafe Express often?
Might be down for going back again and shooting the breeze with you guys.
Man, I've been scouring CL for another M50. I'd love to have the 07 M50 LE.
But in all honesty, it wouldn't be the same. Once you go SS, it's hard to go back.

I dont ride on public roads any more. I have 2 kids and a family that depends on me. I still ride on the track but out in the jungle is for the birds.

Last time I rode on the public roads was when I got rear ended by the car behind me that got smashed by a truck at a red light. If I had not acted quickly and got the out of the way I would be dead. I still got hit but I was OK.

I miss the riding, do not miss all the careless, selfish, , inconsiderate and just plain old douche bag drivers out there. The other 3 percent of the drivers are OK.

At least at the track my life is in my hads for the most part, out in the roads I have zero say.

Dont blame you.

Track that bike out, fukit.

I sure could use the cash though.
Other hobbies to look into.
I found the guitar I want BTW.
Gibson Les Paul Studio in worn brown.

I also plan on making a music room when I get a house.

Exactly. Unfortunately, I have very little time to ride now.
Prob much less time to plan, pack, haul and do track.
Maybe I'm not looking at track with an open mind just yet.

THIS i gotta think is super true. curisers and the like still give u the 2 wheel ride feeling, but it's a whole different ball game. they aren't the thrill a minute machines that sport bikes are.

I love the honesty of ur original post. I hope to marry my wonderful g/f by summer's end, and i may have to give up riding altogether myself.

the Risk vs. Reward is a tough, TOUGH battle. especially riding in a city like houston.....

life is full of choices. best of luck my man!

Imo track is not the cure all.
I've gone back and forth over my almost 35 years of riding.
There's been times the bikes have sat for months at a time, but I always get back on.
You've had a rough patch what with the recent death and it is sobering to realize ones mortality.
Imo don't make any quick decisions. If anything maybe move away from the GSXR and more towards a different genre, naked standard maybe.
If you feel like talking about it you know how to get a hold of me.

you know, i have 2 track bikes and 3 street bikes. i hate riding the street, but i was life flighted from the track, will happen anywhere. and i feel ya. whether its on the street or on the track im a firm believer when its your time it is your time. i enjoy building and tuning these things myself more than anything, if you ever had a chance to see my garage well lets just say its like your dream music room. on another note , when i had my first kid i stopped riding for 17 years its not a bad thing to have family as a top priority. just my .02
