I avoid going to shops whenever possible. I don't like paying people to do things that I can do myself.

I currently have a few projects going on.

CBR1000R brake swap on my ZX10R

Headgasket and timing belt on my Audi A4 (it's a )

I'm also rebuilding my brothers Z750S that got wrecked and doing a tail section swap on it.

I know I'm missing a few things, but that's just off the top of my head.
I am at about the same experience level as you with my cruiser. To be honest I am terrified to touch my duc inappropriately

Yes, as much as I can, because of this:

Mostly I work on my track bike, one repair or fluid change at a time, as I either make modifications or upgrades, or need to repair or replace the parts I damage or break off at the track.

The beer (usually) afterward is awesome.

I work on mine but my Harley is a LOT simpler than most of the inline 4s you guys ride. I'm comfortable changing pipes, re-jetting/tuning carb, plugs, oil changes, wiring, bars, add-on accessories, etc...
About the only thing I'd rather not mess with is engine/tranny rebuilds. I have done a top-end a couple times but I have a really good old independent bike builder that doesn't charge that much, so it's worth it just to let him do it. He's slow as molasses...haha...but he's cheap!!

I would be interested in a maintenance day. I don't like paying $60 oil changes.

I have a feeling you could get your oil changed by any number of willing helpers on this site and elsewhere.

My advice, if you want to keep your dignity would be either attend one of Patrick's free maintenance classes or buy a service manual. It isn't hard, pull the plug, remove the filter, replace the plug and filter with new and add oil.

I have knowledge of mechanical aspects but just in general it is just something which is to be left for professionals. You have no responsibilities when they mess your bike up as would you if you took on a task you couldn't handle.
