If it covers your ankle, you should be fine. Where are you taking your MSF? I know at Awesome, they'll let you know if it's good enough for the course or not. If it's not, they'll let you run out to Wally world during lunch and grab a pair of cheap $25 boots.

They will not pass. Get the boots. They have to be above the ankle, not just covering it. A cheap pair of work boots or the like from somewhere from payless will get you through. Heck, someone might have an old pair on here that they're willing to pay forward to help you out.

You need to contact MRH directly instead of asking people that don't know "exactly" what the criteria is. Ultimately, it's going to be up to your Instructor.

and just an additional .02, if you really can't afford $20 for a pair of shoes, you should rethink buying a motorcycle. Gear, insurance, maintenance, etc. are not cheap. There's a reason they're considered "toys".
