RIP to the rider.

To the guys involved, good job on comforting parties after the incident, however do not hold your feelings about what you saw or did yesterday inside. Find away to talk about it to close friends if something is bothering you. PTS is a .

Yea, it was the worst ride home ever. Pretty crazy how lonely it seems to get when you strap that helmet on after something like that. Definitely taking a few days off from the bike.

Hope your friend is doing ok Helios. Have him reach out if he needs another Marine to talk to about it.

Not blind at all, he was probably going 40, but it doesn't take much speed against an SUV to cause damage. target fixation seems the culprit.

From Wes Combs' brother-in-law

My name's Rex Huppke and I'm married to one of Wes's wife's sisters (Catherine Cornell). I knew Wes, of course, and we live in Chicago and see his wife and their kids in Milwaukee all the time. Needless to say, this is devastating for his two kids and I'm wondering if any of you all who knew Wes well might have any nice stories or thoughts you'd want to share with them.

I wouldn't pass anything along to them right now -- it's too hard for them -- but down the line it's the kind of thing that might mean a lot. If you're willing, please e-mail any stories about Wes or anything you think his kids might want to know to me at rhuppke@tribune.com. I'll collect them and get them into their mom's hands to share when she sees fit.

I'm impressed with the compassion you all are showing here, and my sincere thoughts go out to those of you who were on the scene. Thanks for considering this.

All best,

- Rex Huppke
