Question Buying A Used Trailer Questions

I found a Kendon single bike trailer for $950 on Craigslist. It's a 2001 model so it doesn't use the round tube but instead the u-channel frame which is a bit more heavy/old. The current owner says he completely rebuilt/regreased the bearings and redid the wiring. Because of this, I am planning on offering less than what he is asking in typical Brown fashion

The seller has an Manufacture Origin from Virginia but says he has it registered in Texas? I called Austin Tax Department and they said that in order to register the trailer, I would need to fill out a 170U and pay a fee but because the MO is out of state, it would be considered a new purchase and I would need paperwork from the dealer which I do not have since I didn't buy it new. With that said, I would need to file a bond which will be more fees and 30-90 days.

This whole process is a bit confusing to me

Does anyone have any insight or experience in the process of registering a used trailer here in Texas? If I am going to buy this trailer, it's tonight but I don't want to be surprised when I try to register the trailer, and I don't want to be scammed.

It should not be an issue since it is currently registered in texas. Call a title company or local tax office and confirm.

Or just go register it as a home made trailer, you don't have to bring anything... you fill out a simple form give them $50 and leave. DONE

Good luck passing a Kendon off as homemade if you do get stopped...but seeing that we are in Texas you should be good to go without a plate at all.

Got it on Craigslist tonight...2001 Kendon Single Bike Trailer with rebuilt bearings, wiring and the standard spare + extra wheel/tire. I spared the seller of the Power of Brown tactics...I hope he realizes how lucky he is

Seller provided an MO, Bill of Sale and a copy of his TX Registration so I think I shouldn't have a problem registering it in my name...I'll find out tomorrow. VINs are matching

In montgomery County I had to take the trailer I bought to get inspected by detective to make ute it wasn't stolen and it was a homemade trailer...the detectives actually lookedthe trailer up and down under and all around to make surebit didn't havv numbers anywhere...but that was montgomery county...each county is different
