PB is this a state certification? if so I think that you guys had better check the state rules, if not and its considered a lay person instruction go fo it! anyone certified by the texas deprtment of state health services has to be very careful about voilating the EMS rules about being responders even if they are on a ride with you. its stupid but no one ever accused the state of being smart

shoot I wish Dave, but you can write your texas reps and stuff to get the law changed here in texas. they did it because they had unlicensed responders out there playing woowoo, not just a certified guy that happend to see something happen and stopped to help. so now they tell us if we do it we have to have an additional license as a First Responder organization on top of our EMS Cert. but if I am riding I will do what ever I feel is the minimum necessary to protect life and limb, and the law allows just that the basic

In my haste to post information as I received it, I mis-read the first email I received from the instructor. This is for an Advanced First Aid class, not Advanced First Responder. A First Responder class is 40 hours (this one is 8) and costs $400+ (this one costs $60). This is an American Heart Association certification, not a state level certification.

This class is designed to teach the layperson how to intervene in a medical/traumatic emergency within the limits of what an average bystander would normally be capable of. All interventions up to First Responder level can be performed without the supervision of a Medical Director, and are protected in Texas by the Good Samaritan Law, so you can perform the interventions you learn in this class without liability. EMT-B and higher level interventions require the supervision and approval of a Medical Director.

I will go back through this thread & compile a list of members who have shown definite interest. I have also spoken to others in person as well as via pm. I will compile a list of the definites & pm each individually asking for your weekend availability for May and June (if you know that far ahead). If I get 8 or more available on the same day, I will contact the instructor & set a date. From there, it will be up to the members attending to register (I'll give you a link), pay, and show up for class.

I have sent everyone who has shown serious interest in this class a PM. If you did not receive a PM from me about this class and are interested in attending, send me a message with your weekend availability for this month and next. Please read the this thread all the way through. A lot of information has already been provided and many questions have been answered. If you have a question that has not already been answered in this thread, feel free to PM me. The sooner I get everyone's availability, the sooner I can start working to set up a class date.

Good idea for anyone who doesn't know CPR and basic lifesaving.

Depending on when, I wouldn't mind a refresher.. but I am not free until the end of July.

I'm trying to get it set up for this month or next, but if I can't get enough people to commit by then, I'll start looking at July.

I am waiting on confirmation, but as of now, it looks like the class will be on 5/21. Just trying to find a suitable location.
