I'm all for doing a fundraiser! Lets look at raising $100,000 with rides and m&g's for the 2011 year. Silent auctions are a good way to do it too! You go into home depot and ask for something for a fire fighter, you're gonna get it, you ask 20 riders around 20 home depots to do it, we have a load of stuff to do a silent auction with!

Now get 20 more riders to do that at Lowes, and 20 at Wal-mart, man you now have a $100,000 coming quick! Believe me I do this for a living

Agreed, maybe we should get other bikers involved like the ruff ryders...their rides are huge! There is also sbm and im sure others...maybe get some mc shops involved. Stubbs would prolly be willing (besides, itll give the harley riders a reason to dust off their bikes lol)..

A horrible situation not just for the 200 HFD personnel who could lose their jobs but for everybody in the EMS/FF field in the Houston area. The market's gonna be even more saturated now, from fire and EMS stations to private transports and hospital techs. I'm a basic right now in EMT-Intermediate and going on to fire academy after, what the kind of chance will I or any of my classmates have finding a job afterwards? I've been with a VFD on the EMS side for four months and counting, 2 12s a week, average 5 calls a shift, so I have a head start on the majority of new people in the field but that's nothing compared to someone who has already passed all the training and requirements to be with HFD.

There were too many posts with misinformation on the stadium talk... The city made out like bandits on this stadium deal.

The land is cheap, and is going to increase property values that much more in East Downtown. = More prop tax revenues

The cost of the stadium is funded by the dynamo, but we own it??? That's awesome.

TIRZ (downtown redeveleopment fund.. federal) is footing half of the money the city's supposed to put up. Again... win.

For an initial investment of about 15-20 million, we're going to have years of tax revenues and help small businesses grow in the area (lucky's pub is going to be even biggger).

More city revenue from something other than "our" property taxes and traffic tickets = Good thing

More HFD/EMS = Good thing

Blaming a good real estate investment = Bad thing

Didn't want misinformation getting in the way of a good thread.

No, I do not want to hear how they protect me - they don't. I don't want to hear how they fight crime - they don't. I don't want to hear how they do um..anything really except draw chalk outlines and enforce revenue enhancement laws.
So the jails & prisons are full of speeders?

I dont think Parker is going to layoff any classified personnel at HPD/HFD; it would be political suicide in her reelection bid.

Second, citizens usually associate FD/Medics with good things; saving a life, a house, etc.
People usually equate PD with bad things in their life; crime, death, etc.

Happens alot..people call and ask us to take them to a certain hospital for medical issues that can be taken care of at a closer hospital but they demand to go to their hospital...

Ok I can see if you have cancer and NEED to go to MD Anderson..thats OK!

But being on the Sw side stating you NEED to be transported to LBJ on the NE side cause your stomach hurts (which can be treated at any hospital) ...UM Not so much buddy

Your going to SW MEMORIAL ...LOL they get sooo
