Yea, well something is better than nothing.

I wear knee pads about 95% of the time when I am out riding. Unless you like skin grafts is best to protect yourself the best you can. So wearing gear make US look stupid? Right. GTFO with that .

If the person feels they want to wear a one-piece everywhere then more power to them. Also wearing shorts is dumb anyway, do you really enjoy road dust/dirt/bees/bugs and up your shorts? Its not too hot to wear jeans.

Also the reason many wear boots is because wearing sneakers doesn't protect your ankles when you go down, ask a few people on here how that feels to have a wound that doesn't heal quickly unless you wear sandals all the time. I along with them can tell you it isnt pleasant.

But to answer the title question: some people do not keep in mind that while a motorcycle is a fun toy, it is inherently dangerous to ride and that what you wear in your car is not what you wear on a bike. And those that do not wear the gear, generally do not get much sympathy when they DO go down.

If you are superman where your skin can't be phased from sliding against pavement any any speed than go for it. If you can fork out money for skin grafts and live by the motto "Chicks dig scars" go for it. I love my skin and beig able to have all my body parts functioning and looking like they were made to be. You can me the safest driver but you ain't against the dumb out on the road. happens and I rather be prepared for it. Granted I don't gear up all the time but that's only when I am in a controlled environment. Once you're out of your drive way you're not in control. You are only in control of your bike, what you decide to wear, and your reactions.

I ride with knee and shin guards btw.

you might underhand better after skin grafts and 3rd degree burns from laying on boiling tarmac... then it will be more underhandable..

The best response to this thread would be a series of pictures of road rash and other damage experienced by MH riders, that could have been prevented with a little gear.

I appreciate the point that it's hot .... Get a mesh jacket.

you wear what you want to wear. gear does help if you go down but not safe you from getting injuries . I don't always wear gear , its all where I'm going , WHO I'm ridin with ,and what type of ridin I'm gonna be doing .
You worry too much about going down and getting injuries Don't ride .

I wear gear when it is hot. I heard from a few people you can lose weight and I could easily lose a few pounds. So it may look funny to you. You could also start a counter thread Wall of Fame to show people that are over geared but somehow I don't think that would be as effective.

Many of the folks on MH have witnessed what happens to tennis shoes during a wreck. They seem to get ripped off immediately. Ouch.

Shorts under mesh pants will actually keep you cooler on hot days then shorts alone....
