No Muffler...Is it REALLY BAD?

My M4 came off from the rivets and I have ridden the bike a few times with the pipe... How bad is this for the bike...

Don't have the cash to buy a new one right at this moment, a friend of mine offered to weld the M4 back a so I can replace it.

How much does this affect the bike and does it mess it up?

I don't posses the most knowledge when it comes to mechanics.

Thanks in advance.

what's the difference between what is happening with mine and those guys that hve the Shorty Funnel like (doesn't even look like an exhaust) exhaust?

I still have the pipe running from my headers to where the muffler would be...Just the slip on is off it

generally, their bikes are tuned for it. No exhaust/no tune is not a winning combination and can cause major damage.

You absolutely need the backpressure from the exhaust can. Since you intend to replace the can.... for now... buy yourself a cheap rivet tool from Harbor Freight and rivet that sucker shut, repack with some shredded steel pads from the dollar store. Since it's off, you could shorten it with a hacksaw for a deeper growl if you like. I think your ECM would need to be "retuned" regardless of what you do.

no backpressure is bad, mkay. you could leave it wide open and do a LOLLIWASHER type mod. should definitely re-tune in any situation but a direct/exact replacement

don't ride without exhaust, its not good for the engine and its not good for your health. people that ride without exhaust should not be allowed to breed.

Of course the M4 is just a straight though pipe with packing on the side. Does that really provide much back pressure?

And how old is your muffler? The M4 guys are great with customer support. Give them a call and see what they can do to fix it. They're just up near Dallas. You can ship the can back to them and they'll probably rebuild it for you.

adding pipe length does increase backpressure.

This.

U dont "need" back pressure, but you will lose some of the area under the curve without it.
