Commuting I59 and Beltway 8

I really want to ride to work in this great weather. My new job is at Beltway 8 and I-10. I live in Kingwood and head out for work about 7a to return home around 5p. I hardly see any bikes on I-59 to the beltway, and almost never see any bikes on the beltway, especially in the morning.

Is anyone riding the route, I-59/Beltway 8/I-10, on a regular basis? Any words of wisdom?

Also does the I-59s HOV connect to the I-10 W HOV?

And do bikes have to pay tolls?

Here is the link to the Transtar Speed Map archive.
You can change the date and time and that will show you what traffic looks like during the times that you'll travel.
http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/m...p_archive.aspx

The Katy managed lanes *should* be free at the time you'll be travelling.
Here is the link to the motorcycle toll guide.
https://www.hctra.org/katymanagedlanes/motorcycle.html

Headed westbound on I-10 at 7-8am on weekdays I doubt you'll hit any substantial traffic. I don't recall right off the bat but I don't think that I-10 has an HOV between 59 westbound to I-10. The HOV begins just under 610 near the Marque.

I live in Atascocita...I go Westlake hou. to Belt. 8 to I-10 but it is at 4:45 AM...I would say to look out for debris from the highway, of course watch for the idiots that are running late to work!! but keep an eye out for trash, especially around the area just past HWY 90 on the belt way...OH yes, motorcycles must pay the toll on toll bridges!!! I have a speed pass on my bike and truck...Oh, go the speed limit on the belt way between HY 59 and I-10...cops LOVE to hang out on that strech...

I ride down the 59 HOV everyday. It does not connect to the belt or the I10 HOV. You have to exit the HOV onto the main lanes of 59 near downtown, then get onto I10 and find HOV entrance. Depending on the time you leave, the 59-I10 ramp sucks and stays slow on 10 until you pass 45.

there is no I-59... unless you are travelling from louisiana to georgia, in which case a houston forum probably isn't the best information for you

I usually take beltway to 59 to highway 6. Don't ride the bike much to work tho, maybe 2 days out of the week..

Sometimes I ride to work, I live in Sugar Land on West Belfort and Hwy 6. I leave in the mornings no later than 7:30am. I take West Belfort to 59, ride 59 and exit Hilcroft. This can be quite nasty when it comes to traffic, (bumper to bumper) but If I leave my house by 6:30-7:00 the traffic is reduced by almost 50%.

I hate that area during rush hour and avoid it like the plague. Anywhere on 59 S from downtown to Bellaire fkng sucks around 8am and 4-6pm.

And motorcycles are always free in the HOV lane. Just stay in the HOV part and not the managed lane. My wife's ST1300 did get tagged once by the managed lanes while we were in the HOV, but the toll was automatically refunded the next day.

Remember that the Katy managed lanes are different. They DO charge motorcycles during non-HOV hours.

Ah yes, but this it's not HOV at those times.

I never understood that part about the HOV closing when it's one of the type outside of the concrete barriers. We were coming home from a ride out west one weekend and a couple of the riders got in the HOV lane on I-10. The lead rider gave them a big NO headshake and waved them to come back to the main lanes and pointed out the sign saying it was closed.
