Houston SUMO/DS Ride

Hi guys,

There will be a Sumo/DS ride in Houston Tx this coming Tuesday (4-19-11) night with possible future Tuesday night rides. We will be meeting at the Starbucks on Kirby in between Robinhood and Tangly around 8:00 to 8:30 and leaving no later than 9:00. We will be riding to a favorite spot with clean pristine pavement and an option for dirt. A couple friends and I have been hitting this spot for a month or so and have not had any problems with cops or traffic. After the ride for those so inclined we will be going to Kay's Lounge Bissonnet @ Morningside for a couple pints.

Hope to see you out there.

Sweet... See you Tuesday night. I don't really want to post the spots location and risk the cops shutting it down.

A sumo ride in my backyard after the women and children are put to bed? Count me in. What's the pavement like. Is it a big open area? I just bought a bunch of soccer cones so we can set up some unsanctioned sprints.

Three of the riders play in the Houston Dart League on Wednesday nights. The pavement is city streets but where we shouldnt be bothered by cops. It's new without cracks not much traffic.

Wait so if this is a night ride, does that mean we need to be quiet? Just want to know if I should put the quiet insert in.

It's a party now. Your exhaust could use two inserts and it would still be too loud. Better yet if this is going to be a night ride who is going to let me follow them because my I could probably see further if I ride with a lit cigarette in my mouth that I could with my headlight on.

It's actually pretty quiet with the insert. You'll see... and I can bring an led flashlight and some zip ties.

Also, I'm still on the same rear tire

Leave the smoked visor on your helmet and we'll remember to bring cameras, cuz you're going to run into something.

I ride my Super Duke at the spot quite a bit and I have FMF Apex without any quiet inserts. Its very loud especially at WOT. There aren't any houses near by so I wouldn't worry about noise. Tuesday during the day two of us will be going out there with some shovels to smooth out the approach to dirt jump area and check for sharp objects.

It's your turn. I busted last ride - and you missed it.

I now have a customized shorty clutch lever, courtesy of a grassy hill in the barrio. And a nice scratch in my faceshield where apparently my bike -slapped me. SOB...

Seriously, every other time I try dirt jumping I go home looking like I lost a fight. I'm ready for my kicking though.

I should have manned up and just come out, I was feeling better a couple of hours later anyway

Any jumps for me are less than graceful. I'm always too worried about how much or how little throttle input I need to maintain to keep me from rotating forwards and face planting on pavement. More often than not I end up rotating too far back, which is equally scary.

The jump is very easy, just a step up to flat. We haven't fully investigated the dirt area yet. We just started using that last Tuesday. We will be looking at it all under daylight and fixing any problem areas.
