Cool SNAP OFF WINDSHIELDS ?

I have a 1300 V Star & thinking about getting a windshield that snaps off when I preferr to ride without it on.
Anyone know of a good dealership in the hwy 59 area or Meyerland area ?
Thanks in advance for any replys or opinions .

Just order it from cruisercustomizing.com. I recommend getting a National Cycle Switchblade (just choose a size). I say NC over Memphis Shades because NC is Lexan (polycarbonate) while MS is acrylic. NC is bulletproof, but you can throw a rock through a MS. (That's the standard MS.....not sure about the MS heavy duty shields)

A friend of mine has an '06 VTX1300R with the NC "2-up" switchblade. He is around 5'6"-5'7" and looks completely through it. The top is several inches over his line of sight. I have the NC "Chopped" switchblade on my '03 Sabre. I am 6'0'', and it hits me about chin high. We put my windshield on his bike (all NC switchblades are interchangeable), and he said it needed to be "just a little shorter" because the top was in his field of view. NC makes a "Shorty," which is about 1.5" shorter than the "Chopped."

The windshield and the mount will run you around $300, and shipping is free. Just make sure you get the right mounting kit for your bike, and make sure you have the bands right side up on your forks. If you can't get them to latch into the bracket, flip them over. They have a slight taper to them.

thanks for the info , quite useful for me.
I am about 5ft. 6 1/2 in. myself so that is very helpful info you gave me.
If you don't mind me asking , what is the difference between a shorty or chopped windshield ?

Glad I could be of assistance.

The Shorty is National Cycle's shortest windshield. It's about 14" (14.2" if I remember correctly) from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the windshield. The Chopped is 15.8" from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the windshield. I believe both are the same width. The 2-Up is 21" from cutout to the top, and about 2" wider than the shorty and the chopped.

Its only 4 bolts. Comes off in about 2 minutes. I can show you how if you need help.

The stock shield on the V*1300 is good. It would be nice if it were a quick detach, but it really does come off very easily.

Can't comment on Mem Shades specifically. I had 1 of their perm mounted windshields a LONG time ago and it was great, but no experience with their current product line.

Also - I would recommend the quick detach option if you can get it. I rarely want to have a windshield unless on a long ride, so the quick detach is great.

Pretty good really for an aftermarket detachable.

The V*1300 is a to accessorize - its a killer bike right out of the box, but there just isnt as much for it as you'd like.

http://www.nationalcycle.com/newsvideo/index.html

Scroll down about 2/3 of the way and you will see a box where you can download a polycarbonate vs. acrylic video. The polycarb is National Cycle, the acrylic is Memphis Shades. It definitely helped me make my decision. If you're wanting the tinted lower section to match your bike, tint can be had pretty cheap.
