Would a GSXR 600 be worth about $6,000

I have a friend that has this bike in her garage. 2008 GSXR 600. She bought it for her ex-bf and then a few days later they broke up. It still has the paper tag on it (but she does have the license plate). I think it has 4000 miles. It looks 100% stock other than the exhaust pipe and I think a re-map, but I still have to verify that.

I'm researching on Craigslist, eBay, blue book and NADA...but I wanted some collective info from the brain-trust that is MOTO-HOUSTON because I don't know chit about these sport bikes.

Would it be out of line to expect to get about $6,000 for this bike?
It's black, beautiful, and doesn't have a scratch on it. Matching black helmet (nothing special) goes with the deal, but that's really a moot point.
I just want to see if it would be an easy sale at $6,000 or what your thoughts are? It will be for sale in a couple weeks...once the judge awards her the right to sell it. Clear TX title (of course). Current tags and inspection until 2012.

What do you think?

Yeah that's what I was telling her. Figured we could prob get it sold for around $6,000 give or take a couple hundred.
Looking at Craigslist I see a lot of 2007-2009 GSXR 600s priced from $5,800 up to $7,000...so I figure my guess is about right. Just wanted some feedback from you peeps that live and breath this stuff.

She bought a bike for the guy?

I vote you start dating this awesome woman!

$6K for an 08 GSXR is a bit of a stretch, but possible... especially if it clean.

I'd ask more like 5900 or something, it looks and sounds a lot better to the buyer.

NADA average retail is $6290. If the bike is clean and runs well you should be able to get at least $6k for it. Just hold out and don't be low balled by the first offer you get.

If you advertise it in Craigslist, don't let them come to your house to see it. Meet them in a very public spot. It's a good way to scope out your place and come back while you're at work.
Don't allow test drives unless you have cash in hand.

Does she have the title?
If so, print a 130U and a 271 from the DMV website to bring with you.
If you accept cash, pick up a pen at Office Depot to check the bills with. If it's a cashiers check either verify the check by calling the bank it's drawn on, or actually cash it at the bank it's drawn on before you hand over bike or title.

About 2 years ago I bought my '06 GSXR 600 used, but with only 740 miles on it, for exactly $6k. It was CLEAN, pretty much almost new. I thought it was a good deal.

Helios,
In 2009 people were selling bikes for ridiculously low prices because of the economy and the need to get out of a note or needed cash. The market has stabilized a bit, and while there may be a deal or two from someone who is desperate, $6k for that bike is a fair asking price currently.

Thanks for the Craigslist advice Patrick.
I definitely agree - I've bought and sold a LOT of stuff via Craigslist and you're definitely right...public meeting place - especially for big ticket items like bikes, boats, cars, etc...

I agree. Both my bike and Ksims bike are 3yr old bikes (at the time of sell/purchase) in pretty much brand new cond.

My '06 bought in '09 for $6k, what I thought was a good price.
Ksims '08 selling in '11 for $6k is almost identical to my purchase.
If I had the $6k, I'd buy it!
