Hot Tub Wiring???

Ok so I just got a hot tub from somebody and the heater dosen't work and we don't know how to wire it up since its not a 110 wiring connection. If anyone knows how to wire up hut tubs or is an electrician I would be willing to pay you to fix it. I figure its worth it since I got it for free.

*sigh* ok...what kind of connection is it that you need done? you need to post some more info. are you trying to just hook it up to main power? is it internal wiring you need fixed? is it currently or has been shorting out? is it blowing circuit breakers? is your heating element just bad?

Sounds like possibly the heating element is burnt out. Get a professional to look at it though, electricity and water don't mix well.

Well, you need a GFCI circuit breaker on a hot tub. You will need to wire it to the main panel of the house or you could possibly wire it to an existing 220 connection if that is easier. You really need someone to come look at your house and come up with the best solution for you. BTW, heating elements are fairly cheap and as long as the tub is in good shape, you got a good deal.

What brand is the hot tub? If it's "Jacuzzi" I have a good site for parts.

ok well im not really worried about the heater I know I can get that fixed. All I want is to have the hot tub wired to the house. It has a flat black power cord with 3 thick wires in it and a ground wire. all i want is to hook it up to the house. but i don't have any more room in my breaker box and i don't think this house has a ground since it is old. so i dont know how to upgrade my breaker box and wire up the 240 wiring.

What breaker box do you have now, brand, amp rating? "Might" be able to run a subpanel depending and from their wire it up to the tub. How far is the tub going to be from the breaker box?

All houses have a ground. Otherwise you couldn't have a 110v circuit.

You will need a double pole circuit breaker. If you have an electric stove, electric dryer, or central a/c, you will have one in there. You could use one of those circuits if you aren't using one.
