Bell Star Helmet

Saw this on the website and well I was really considering purchasing until I read the sentence about "eliminating life". LOL

http://www.leatherup.com/p/Bell-Full...et/114793.html

The Bell Star may have taken a long three years to develop, but what's a little time when you're making the best. The Star features Bell's exclusive Velocity Flow Ventilation with FlowAdjust for amazing ventilation and temperature control. It's extremely light TriMatrix Composite Shell is sculpted into a super stable aerodynamic signature that eliminates life and buffeting even at high speed. Finish it off with the easy-to-use and change 3Mode Shield with ClickRelease and you've got simply the best Bell ever. And coming from the company that invented the helmet, that's saying a lot.

I currently own the vortex but want to upgrade to the Ride Smart-1. Yes they had a period of time where they were sold by walmart and that probably diminished their value to a number of people in the biking community. With that said they do spend $$ on R and D and they are making strides in product development. I purchased the transition shield and after a about two weeks I can say it is a great investment.

How much did you pay for that transition shield? I see it online for $120
I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Ride Smart-1 on monday unless I am really blown away when I try on the Arai RX-Q today

Bought the shield at Motorcycles Unlimited talk to Patrick. I think I may be doing the same thing on a helmet. I would also hit him up for the Ride Smart-1.

I would get one, but I'm kinda worried about the eliminating life part.

I have a bell star, and I like it.

it definitely isn't as well built as my shoei x-11 (shield scratches/dings too easily, chin vent mechanism is a bit fragile, top vents tend to open/close on their own, paint on the matte black rally version chips a little too easily), but I'd say overall it's a pretty good helmet.

the star has noticably better ventilation than my x-11, but suffers from significant air leaks when the vents are supposed to be shut off. it is also pretty a pretty noisy helmet, even with ear plugs (the x-11 is certainly not a quiet helmet either).

the star does come with a very nice helmet bag.

I'll probably look for another helmet in a year or so and relegate the bell to track use, but for now it is my regular street lid.
