Anybody with any common sense knows how dangerous lane splitting is, but how many of us have been rear-ended at a red light? Splitting the lane all the way up to the light guarantees you won't get hit from behind because you're in between a bunch of stopped cagers.

BTW this legislation does NOT legalize reckless crazy on the highway- it specifically states that traffic has to be moving at less than 25mph.

Write your senator, tell him to get his head outta his and pass this bill so we can stop getting creamed by idiots on cell phones at red lights.
I agree. I think it would be great to have it passed in the Senate. We need to write them.

SB 506 died in comittee on 09....

I think what you want/are looking for is....

http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLoo...2R&Bill=HB1571

However this is the same 'group'/comittee that got it last year....and never did anything with it.
If you look at the link above, these people got the thing on March 3rd...and it's now April.

If I were inclined to bet, it's that these people are going to drag and it's going to rot in their comittee
again.

In law, debating semantics is everything. Is there a difference between "sharing a lane with another vehicle" vs "lane splitting"? I always thought of the latter as "whitelining" -- i.e. riding on the white stripes between lanes, in order to cut between two vehicles each properly in it's own lane.

Sharing a lane would make sense, especially in the event of two bikes. As in, at a red light/intersection waiting to go. Ride in staggered formation, pull beside one another 2x2 at the light, or when slowing down for it or pulling off (e.g. under 25 mph).

The riding 2x2 is legal. (Parading is not, but that is a different situation.) What the OP wants to get restarted is legalized lane splitting (up to 25 mph) for filtering through traffic.

Lanes splitting is very safe under the right conditions. At slower speeds, riding between packed cars, quite litterally makes a cushioned lane for most bikes to continue on up to a red light. Since the cars in front are allready stopped, a column of safety is built in, thus preventing a rear ender for the bikers.

I was in Germany in the late ,bikes always pulled up in between the cars at stop lights and took off on green, assuring they out paced the cars.
It seemed very safe, I assume it was legal as it was so routine.
I had a Honda 700 Nighthawk S at the time. Germany is a great place to ride when it isn't raining. (Seems they have almost no straight roads other than the Autobahns)

lane splitting will die in comittee in Texas forever, and it should
