I have a pair of A* SMX plus boots and love them. Didn't like them very much on the first couple of rides though. Lots of missed shifts b/c I couldn't feel the gear shift. Now I can feel the foot controls just fine. Just got use to them is all. Pretty stiff at first as well but they broke in really quick. Initially I wanted a pair of Sidi B-two's but none of Sidi's boots, that I tried, fit my feet properly so I ended up with the SMX+. I don't see how there would be much difference in feel at the toes b/n the SMX+ and the ones you sent back. You should go ahead and try on some Sidi boots. Seemed like the Sidi boots offered more sensitivity over the A* and weren't as stiff to start.

one thing I absolutely hate about my SMX+ is the squeakiness. Can't walk into any place without people staring at me b/c I'm the guy with abnoxiously loud footwear! Every little move causes them to squeak or creak.

"Produced under the supervision of Sidi so you know the quality is assured
Synthetic leather upper
Lining is a fully vented cotton/poly blend
Double stitched in all high stress areas
Shin plate constructed of injection molded plastic, which is anatomically formed to the shape of the riderís leg
Recessed plastic toe shift pad
Internal toe protection
The ankle is internally protected via injection molded plastic shields on both the inside and outside
A softer-pleated material is used in the Achilles and instep area for increased flexibility
Injection molded thermoplastic wrap around heel cup
Entry/closure system via a full zipper
Set Up's own exclusively formulated sole "
Have the same one. Went down at the track, good stuff at fair price. Made by Sidi only with less quality material but perfomance is same.
