welding oxygen sensor

anyone knows how to weld well here?

I have a Hobart HH140 welder w/ a bottle of 75%argon/25%co2 gas and solid wire 0.030" setup. I bought this long ago and welded may be like 3 times in my entire life...total welding time probably 3 minutes of trigger pulling The weld is a mess but it did what I wanted..held the two pieces together.

anyhow, I need to weld an oxygen sensor bung to the exhaust pipe for my bike now. I'd like to have the machine set up properly & some technique on how to weld without putting a nice hole in the exhaust pipe (thinner metal). Any advice on how to set up the machine?
wire feed speed? voltage setting? etc..
thanks!!

It's hard to tell all those settings with out knowing the wall thickness and material type. Also I would tig that rather than mig for your application. Try starting at 50 for the feed and 7V to start out and adjust from there. That's what I used on 4130 with .090" wall. Do you know how to tell a good weld cause sometimes the weld looks good but if your not hot enough you don't get good penetration. Seriously though what side of town are you on? I'll be at U of H all day welding a frame for senior project if you want to stop by. I've switched over to TIG. Much easier to controll.

Don't have access to a TIG machine. Those things are expensive.

Is this basically what you need done? Is your exhaust pipe chromed? I'll need to buff it with a wire brush to get a clean area to weld. I'll be there on Saturday all day and Sunday from 12 to 6.
