helmet daily maintenance

hey guys & gals...

what do people do when they come back from ridin in houston's hot summer heat????

just toss the helmet aside??? or spray with odor eliminators (if so, what do you recommend)???
how often do you remove the lining and wash it???

and how often should u replace a helmet???

recently purchased a shoei rf-1000 that matches the bike (costed a fortune)....but i want to make it last...and not have it smell like after a few months....ideas anyone?

I'm no expert, but they say you are suppose to replace a helmet after 5 years. I leave the visor up and set on a hard surface to let the lining dry. I also remove my liner when it gets bad and toss it in the wash.

Old trick I learned from roadracing;
If your helmet is soaked with sweat, wipe out what you can with a paper towel, and then ball up a fresh couple of pages of newspaper, and put them in the helmet. It will absorb the excess dampness and the ink will help neutralize the acid from the sweat.

DON'T leave your sweaty gloves in it - that only makes it worse.

yeah it is:

example: trying to call someone out on improper vocabulary and being wrong just totally costed you.

well, my wife a grammar geek and myself a non-grammer geek agree , using costed makes you sound stupid. lol

"recently purchased a shoei rf-1000 that matches the bike (costed a fortune)...." or (cost a fortune) you decide.

kiwi fresh force- use it in my boots and my helmet.

drier sheet is ok but doesn't seem to work so great.

also I have an old plastic milk crate I keep my helmet on so it vents and dries out.

I have a barely used helmet. Febreeze and then sit in the shop on a shelf to dry.
