naa its just a starter bike i dont want to invest to much money in it when ima get rid of it in a year or so.

As to real world use, I commute with it in good weather and it is great around town and acceptable on the freeway. If you keep it around 75-80 with your head on a swivel then you should be comfortable with enough left on tap for an emergency pass. The only downsides are the wind, which can move the bike around a bit, and the amount you have to work the gearbox.

cant really be as bad as riding a cruiser that has no aerodynamic i dont think the wind is pretty bad on my little crusier lol

im looking in to this one, hopefully i can find the right agent to hook me up with a good deal on full coverage. but if not i guess im going with the ninja 250

It's not the wind from the front, it's the wind from the side. If there is a strong crosswind I have to lean into it to keep a straight line. This was more than a little disconcerting the first time it happened.

also the sv650s are considered sport tourers as well. I dont like the 650R's mainly because I hate bikes that have a single piece seat.

As mentioned get an sv650. Insurance will be way cheaper than a R6 or the like. Actually, it will probably be close to what you would be to cover a ninja 250/500...

for W3, almost all this advice has been great. I've got a 500R ninja, and as u mentioned, it's NOT a pretty looking bike ( basically the same style as when it was introduced in the late 90's ) But she's very forgiving, plenty strong for getting on the highway , and is heavier and not as affected by wind.

my insurance for full coverage w/ geico is i believe $370 per year.

I worry you will get bored of the 250 pretty darn quickly . the 650's with the upright seating might be perfect for ya
